Player thread: Gael Clichy (2014/15)

Re: Gael Clichy

I thought we should get rid now it would be fucking stupid to get rid, found an end product, back to his best at defending. Keep him.

Re: Gael Clichy

Definitely benefitting from regular games and is a useful player to have but we still need to shop around for a new LB.

Re: Gael Clichy

Virtually no chance Clichy gets another long term contract given his age, but he is doing a fantastic job stopping City from having to go out and buy one. his continued high level performances are allowing City the time to develop some homegrown talent and MAY save us $$$$$$ over the next couple of seasons.

However, he is susceptible to the ball inside him and the CB, but a good part of that is the CB's responsibility, too.

Re: Gael Clichy

Clearly plays better without rotation and has looked a different player this last month after a very poor start to the season.

On that basis, he should stay in the team and Kolorov will just have to settle for a place on the bench for a while with a xmas game thrown in for him.

Same on the other side. Zab has been average this season but is now finding form and should not be rotated.

Re: Gael Clichy

Clichy has these 'wow' moments because he does things you don't expect from him. Well at least I don't.
Like on Wednesday, the airdropping ball near his backline with a player in his back, and he cooly controlles it to turn and round the opponent. Or the deep curling ball he played to Aguero at Southampton (that pass deserved a finish from the latter), bit like in 2012 that brilliant deep through ball with the outside of his right foot when we beat Wolves after rags were hold by Everton (and we all know how that ended a few weeks later).

He's certainly in a good moment,. During the course of a season every player will have a good or bad spell, like any team will. Hope it continues for a while. He's a likeble guy, always decent in his comments and never moans. Bit like Zabaleta, but not quite ...

Clichy Fernandinho Nasri Dzeko and probably some others are all players that when they're in and out of the team, it does them no good at all. They need to be playing in consecutive games to build a bit of momentum in their play and confidence. Rotation has its good points but it also has its bad ones too and for many footballers it can stop a player building a good run of form.
