Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

Its a no brainer in getting jimmy signed up - he has got grit which at times is missing in some of our bigger names. He was immense against the moaners yesterday and without him our squad gets weaker.

Milner could have become a fantastic attacking midfielder, but that opportunity is gone, he could still do a job on the right flank to just stretch the game, but that's it. I don't fancy him on the left at all .

His future is in central midfield. I watched him closely in the last two games , he was marvelous against middlesborough and brilliant against chelsea in the latter stages of the game (when he moved into central midfield).

However, he cannot play with anyone .. players need partners .. partners feed off each other .. Fernandinho would bring the best out of Milner, and vice verca.

Scored a world class goal (IMO) yesterday, and he is the sole reason we managed to get a point yesterday (IMO) not just because of the goal but because he came on and pressed, showed a bit of urgency, etc.

Yes he hasn't signed the contract, but I still can't blame him. He had to not sign a contract to get Pellegrini to play him, then he finds there is no guarantee he will play in the next game or not, then there is no certainty of whether Pellegrini will stay or not.

I don't know what goes on behind close doors, but seeing as we didn't get Bony when he had £20m release clause him his contract last summer, who fucking knows what Milner is being offered. I'd rather lose Milner who grafts for the club regardless of the state of his contract than keep players we are stuck with.

Vent at me all you want, I don't care, all i care about is seeing more players like Milner at the club.

Jimmy The Rag.

James Milner has been voted the Etihad Player of the Month for January.

The England midfielder comfortably saw off the challenge of Gael Clichy and Fernandinho to secure his first award of the season – and he paid tribute to the City fans that helped him secure the prize.

“Anytime you win an award that has been voted for by the fans or your fellow professionals is special – it means a lot because the fans turn up every week, pay their money and they are the life and soul of the football club,” said Milner.

“Players, managers and chairmen come and go, but the fans are always there and they are the heartbeat of the club so for them to vote me Player of the Month is great and it means that I’m contributing to the side and that’s all I want to do.”

Milner

One of the most popular players in the squad, Milner ended last month with a superb display against Chelsea and he started February with a last-gasp equaliser against Hull last weekend.

If he continues in the current vein, he could be in contention for this month’s award, too.

“The fans are brilliant with me and at every club I’ve been at the support has tended to get stronger the longer I’ve been there,” he said.

“I know that when I first arrive I was a Yorkshire lad who wasn’t maybe as glamorous a name as players like David Silva, Sergio Aguero and those sort of guys and I completely understand that, but hopefully the supporters see that even if I have a bad game and the passes aren’t coming off or whatever, that I’ll still give everything for the team and I’m sure that’s all the fans want to see.

...James Milner...

“Their support is massively appreciated. Wherever we play they are behind us and they maybe don’t realise how much they can lift us, particularly at home when things aren’t going well and it’s down to us to get them going as well and give them something to sing about.”

Behave Jimmy !!!
But well done.

Top lad Jimmy, would have given it Clichy if I'm honest but Milner was the other candidate for the Player of the Month.

Will be absolutely gutted if he left, can't lose characters like that - probably the fittest player in the club, doesn't drink, fully committed to being a Professional Footballer and improving himself.

But the more this drags on the more likely he is to move on...

It's become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The reality now is that a buying club can afford to pay him a huge signing on fee since they won't need to pay transfer fees. Jimmy will likely be placed in the position of having to voluntarily say no to a couple of million quid in his back pocket, if he wants to stay at City. Given the extent to which he's been waivering already, I can't see him turning down such a lucritive offer from another club and he's inevitably going to end up at Liverpool imho.

Liverpool is looking like a better option than it was a month or so ago. He will be pretty much guaranteed a starting spot and imo be a significant upgrade on the Gerrard of today for them. Obviously he would be playing with a lot of other good English players - Henderson, Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana and Jordon Ibe as well.

Really think it would be a massive kick in the teeth to lose a player of Milner's quality to Liverpool who may well come again next year and completely free!!

"They’d give anything to be able to pull on a City shirt for just one game and whether they were good enough or not, they’d still run around and give everything they could - and they just want us to do the same when they’re watching."

Dead right, Jimmy. Now sign the bloody contract.

It's becoming pretty obvious that the contract would have been signed by now, and he can't be serious about having playing time written into. I think he has little intention of signing, and I wouldn't put it past some of the England Dippers to have put it to him that he would be Starfish's replacement and as such be a first pick.

It will stick in my craw for a good number of seasons if The Dippers get him for fuck all!!

Totally agree. He really needs to start as a central mid from here on in. Fernando is crap and Jimmy always does a good job - and more importantly always puts a shift in.
When YaYa gets back the big man needs to be pushed up the pitch where he is dangerous as well so Milner should keep his place.
