Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

I always rated Roberts as the best youngster on our books. He played well for Fulham so I didn't understand why it was deemed he needed 18 months experience at Celtic. Why is he not learning his trade with us - especially as we were in 4 cups & had no fit midfielders.

I just hope Pep can get him back before the 18 months is up otherwise it will be 2 full seasons before we get to see him. His gait is definitely Messiesque. As they say.... If you're good enough you're old enough. He's wasted at Celtic.

The upside to him being there next season is the league will be more competitive with Rangers back, 4 old firm derbies, Europe plus having to deal with a big crowd and the expectation to win every week.

If he's good enough for City he should be the best player in that league next season.

I don't get the moaning now he is doing well! If he was with us he would be behind the likes of kdb silva nasri etc. He might get some game time but is he realistically going to keep players like that out of the Team? He is much better off playing fir Celtic than sitting on our bench! If 18 months means he gets games then that is the price we pay for giving him a great chance to develop! Not ideal but they are investing in him as well knowing that they have him for next season as well!
Correct.

Good goals from him today, very calm and collected which if you'd seen his earlier air shot while one on one with the keeper are even more impressive. he could easily have panicked and just smacked them. Well done to the lad.

I didn't realise this. However, what an irony - we have to pay to get back a player who was clearly the best of the bunch. We paid a tidy sum for him to Fulham. Hope we got a good loan fee. Anybody know??

I am sure if Navas leaves next seasor, Pep may recall him and take a look.

The thing with Roberts is that he's as good as anyone on a technical level and there's not much to teach him.

It's the physical side that could only ever hold him back. That makes Scotland a great place for him as it's going to be a good scrap every game.

He'll play men's football for another year and come back a man himself.

Then we'll have a player on our hands.

Roberts or Diaz could become Pep's new Messi

The future is bright the future is blue

The academy is going to produce a rich vein of talent from now on.
All the age groups are playing the new City way and beating everyone in sight.
With little gems from every age group coming through.
Indeed the future is blue.

And let's not forget some of the lads who are doing well on loan in far flung corners of the earth, despite the naysayers saying they shouldn't have gone, you almost see the pieces falling into place before your very eyes
