Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

Not the sort of game you want to miss a chance like that.

He's done well apart from that, so comfortable running with the ball.

Has to do so much more when he hasn't got the ball. He doesn't look like he relishes defending, but could work harder and put himself about a bit.

That miss was a shocker but he's done some OK things apart from that.

If he keeps getting these type of games then it's definitely the best place for him.

Absolutely. He will have to react to these situations with hard work & if he does, we have a player when he comes back.

That's going to be tough for the kid. Hopefully will be character building

Does fuck all defensively, still looks their best player when on the ball mind.

Posts here whining about his defensive abilities in a old firm Derby with flying tackles everywhere.
It's right old dirty bastard football and this kid is exactly that - a lightweight little boy who wouldn't flourish in this environment.
Like watching a flyweight fighting against heavyweights.

He looks good when he has the ball and gets into some wonderful positions just unfortunate that his team mates aren't looking up and aware of him.

Yep. He needs to watch Navas as if he could match his fitness/work rate he'd have the potential to become truly top class - otherwise he could be another Adam Johnson.

Same in every game. Nothing to do with the derby. He doesn't have to go flying into tackles, he has to run & get himself involved & not let people pass the ball round him so easily. I absolutlely guarantee Diaz would be doing that if he was on there & he's younger smaller and better. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for Roberts.

Nobody is asking him to go into tackles he can't win or injure himself. He just isn't showing any desire to win the ball back by either pressing properly or tracking his man.

Both things he can improve on to become a better player.
