Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

Stuck it out well there. Legs gone ages ago then cramp or injury & probably made more interceptons than he did when he was fit. Hope they aren't going to give him a pen now he's strggling to kick.

He showed enough to suggest he will put the required work in but imo if he's going to make it at City he will have to get much fitter. Probably due to not playing enough football & being in the Championship but it has to improve a lot, whatever.

Club need to keep a very, very close eye on his development in the next few weeks. Forget all the 'character building' and 'mental toughness' cliches, Glasgow is an unforgiving environment in which to play, and that miss will haunt him for as long as he is in Scotland; they're already comparing it to Peter van Vossen's miss for Rangers against Celtic, and that came in a game which Rangers even won!

Ronny Deila will not survive this, and I fully expect Michael O'Neill to be managing Celtic come August, but if Roberts shows any signs of a hangover in the coming weeks, I'd have him out of there tout de suite and training under Guardiola, before loaning him elsewhere.

had a quick look at the Celtic forums and none of them seem the giving him any stick over it. seem to be far more concerned about the fact that their main attacking threat/hope is a teenager on loan

I wonder how Deila's departure will affect this loan.

I know the link exists because their chairmans son is one of or scouts, but it only started when Deila joined from Stromgodset - another club we had a loan partnership with.

I'm sure the club will be reevaluating the loan when the new man arrives, depending on how they want the team to play and if they fancy Roberts.

just bagged with a composed finish. Picked up on a mistake by the last defender and robbed him 25 yards out, then slotted it through the onrushing keepers legs.

And substituted 5 mins later.....strange if he wasn't injured?

Yeah. To be honest, he wasn't having much of an impact on the game and was looking tired. They also needed the win to all but secure the title so they brought on someone physical to support in midfield.

Ahhh,ok,thanks.

I luckily tuned in just prior to his goal but was then surprised and disappointed to see him go off.

Fair enough bud... If he isn't committing himself in other games then maybe he's one of those showpiece players, he'll be sold on.

Remember that kid, Vladimir Weiss was it?
A few years ago. He looked good on the ball, dribbling, but was weak and couldn't handle it at the time with us.

He was frozen out by Mancini and never given a chance at City to be fair to him. He's still excellent on the ball now and you'll see him in the Euros this summer. I'm hoping he has a great tournament.
