Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

Gifted with the goal and arguably should have done better with his chance in the first half, though he did create that himself. He was guilty in the second half of taking the ball into closed space rather than pass, a common trait of his, and he faces a bit of a dilemma. If he remains stuck on the right wing, as Celtic have used him consistently, he's only going to strengthen what he's already good at: cutting inside and threatening the goal. However, if he is to develop into the complete player, he needs to be able to drift across the front line and receive the ball and threaten from all angles. To be trusted in that role, though, he needs to be able to see more of the game and release the ball earlier, something he cannot develop when stuck on the wing. Will be interesting to see what a new coach makes of him.

This loan has so far been good for him. It's a vastly better level than the EDS, and he'd only be sat on the bench at City. He's already been through immense media pressure with that miss and he's playing in games with expectation and learning loads and he's only just turned 19. Thankfully too, he's already showing signs that he CLEARLY does have this talent that we think he potentially does. Yes, raw still, but there is so much natural ability there and he seems to be learning with each game and he's well on his way to becoming their best player. His attitude seems good too.

He's learning to work harder defensively, he takes a good corner and he seems to have an eye for a pass as well. Long way to go, but its encouraging so far.

He was frozen out by Mancini and never given a chance at City to be fair to him. He's still excellent on the ball now and you'll see him in the Euros this summer. I'm hoping he has a great tournament.

Just seen Weiss will be 27 this year. That went bloody quick.

I'll be shocked if Patrick is playing for a club from Qatar in eight years time though.

Roberts didn't do that much today but he at least showed an improvement in effort off the ball. Long long way to go in order to reach the required level but if he was to keep improving at the same rate it would only take til next season.

Fantastic finish for the goal.

if his supposed team mates gave him the ball when in great positions instead of the useless fuckers passing it among the Celtic coven he`d do even better and so would Celtic

Only the Prem could pay him as much and it's tax free bud. He's not just setting up his life but his kids and grandkids. Plus I reckon his Mrs would have divorced him anywhere else!

I hope he has a good euros and gets a move back to the UK as he's far too good to waste away out here.

I think it's a tragedy what happened with Weiss. Similar in a way to what's happening with Barker now but for different reasons.

Two of the most talented players I've ever seen here at that level. And I've seen players with not even half the talent, make it in the Premier League. Both fast as well. Weiss just never seemed to learn how to play football. If he was coming through next year, with Pep around, perhaps he would.

As I say, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you watch him for Slovakia in the Euros. He's also one of the nicest blokes I've ever met as well.
