Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

As I say, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you watch him for Slovakia in the Euros. He's also one of the nicest blokes I've ever met as well.
It's still a travesty and a waste of his careeer, what he did. Had he gone to Qatar when he's 29-30, I wouldn't say a word, I'd even defend the decision on internet forums. :) But as you say, he's still great, he showed it in the qualification. Not just a great dibbler, also their maincreative outlet (along with Hamsik). There was some talk when he swapped his Qatari club that he might go back to Europe... Well, there is hope that it might happen maybe after the Euros.

The fee quoted by his club to European clubs was €6m when he was leaving Lekhwaya but Gharaffa struck a player exchange deal and he signed for four years on a free of sorts.

I don't think his agent (Mino) was overly excited at a fee of only €6m to move back to Europe so I would assume the four deal is a safety net for Vlad and Mino is putting his eggs in the "he will have a good euros, is now on a four year deal and his price will increase in the summer" basket. It's very much the agent that gets final say rather than player which I think is very odd personally and have said as such.

Settling very nicely there. Not sure if I'd rather have him there for another year and (in all likelihood) be their star man, or come back and have Pep use him.

Don't think he's ready for us yet (far too good for the EDS so game time would be a problem), although whether Celtic is still the best place for him next season is a whole different ballgame (pun intended :) )
It'll maybe depend on their incoming manager and any conversations City have with them. Be interesting to know if the loan agreement has any get-out clause with them changing manager.

Top of the table clash about to start. Looking forward to watching Roberts and my countryman Tom Rogic.
