Re: Nasri - future captain/vice captain material

Those saying they wouldn't want him next to them in the trenches spectacularly fail to appreciate what it takes to survive in such situations.

I'd much rather have someone next to me who had a healthy disrespect for authority, an appreciation of the situation we both found ourselves in and oodles of guile, rather than some unquestioning, pugilistic warrior who just did what he was told and talked of killing the enemy all the time.

Not only would he be much better company, but I reckon he'd significantly enhance my chances of survival.

Andy Morrison would have been dead by Christmas 1914. Why would I want him by my side?

Indeed.

So, you prefer Nasri to Milner?

As a player or as a person?

That's an existential question. How can one divide the two?

Anyway, I assumed that you were referring to Jimmy in para 2.

One can divide the two.

I think you're being a little unkind to Jimmy by attaching him entirely to that description in that way. I believe he's astute, considered and knows his limits. Hardly the hallmarks of the person I've described.

But to answer your question in terms of character: undoubtedly Nasri. Most probably because I see much more of myself in him than I do Jimmy. He's got a strong personality, polarises opinion and is instinctively recalcitrant. James Milner is none of those things, relatively speaking.

As a player I'm torn. Probably Nasri by a nose, although I expect that differential will have widened significantly by the time this decade is over.
