I think the role of the captain is greatly overrated. You need a few senior pros who are prepared to take a young player coming into the side under their wing. But generally Manchester City players shouldnt need anyone to set an example for them.

I disagree. Something that is often taken for granted is that most footballers are in their 20s. The idea that some people in their 20s don't need guidance or inspiration when faced with extreme pressure environments is wrong in my opinion. I think the average professional footballer needs that type of leader MORE than the average person. Same with soldiers in their 20s; having a figure to look up to who has been there and done it is extremely valuable when things get tough.

Kompany has been an exemplary captain compared to the others that have worn the armband since the takeover:

Kolo: banned for drugs when vice captain
Tevez: how many transfers request submitted as captain?
Yaya: only picked because the club doesn't have the balls to tell him to fuck off.

His form is down to the manager. As many have noted, our entire defense is problematic because our manager doesn't give a shit about defending.

Credit to Kompany for being in attendance tonight at the fa youth cup semi. That will have really inspired the youngsters. We can debate all day about his form but his leadership, intelligence and exemplorary attitude off the pitch is second to none. Qualities I want from city's captain.

"this team has been mentally weak since 2010" & "i dont think hes a very good captain" . We are the most successful english club ,over the last 5 seasons , and yet are captain isnt very good and the team is mentally weak , often wondered how low this forum could go , ive got my answer.

OK, in my humble opinion, it is time to leave our Captain Marvellous alone and get back to the Agenda and criticising other clubs instead of the wonderful hero who is.............................................................. VINCENT KOMPANY!!! Leave him alone, leave our Captain to regain his splendid form please.

Just me stating my opinion. Thank you.

We have won the league twice on the last day thanks to dramatic collapses from better teams who should have won it, we won the FA Cup playing only one decent team and won the League Cup.

And the cost for this was one billion pounds.

Saying "we're the most successful English club over the past 5 seasons" doesn't exactly cover the events.

You're right..it does'nt..it does'nt cover the not insignificant fact we smashed a 56yr old all time goal scoreing record or the fact the billion £ includes the buying of the club...or the two 650 odd million televised premiership gates both included The City of Manchester Football Club.

You're right, this all means Kompany is a fantastic captain because City are good in attack, that you've confused an inaccurate article several years ago with numbers relevant now, and that lots of people watched City on TV.

I don't know how it means anything like that but I'm sure in the mind of some it does somehow.

I'm not sure what the difficulty is here. Kompany was (is) in poor form and was dropped. Just because he happens to be captain does not give him a waver.

And for those who believe he should be given a pardon and should play because of what he has done for the club in the past, that's nonsense. We play to win, not field a team based on sentiment.

He has to merit being reselected IMO, and I'm sure when Pellers thinks that time is right, he will play.

No i'm not right about VK being a fantastic captian or i would have stated that, i never, i was replying to your words concerning us trumping out of M/c rag/dippers 'who should have won the title/s' whilst being watched by an awful lot of people, that and trumping thier babes records whilst pumping a bill£ into the industry gets folks attention..so yeah simply being the most successful English side in the past 5 seasons does not cover all the events. I wont hold me breath waiting for Trafford or Chelski to register a 600 mill tv audience..without playing us

Vinsont....he's got too big, Micah got big...shit play followed, YaYa gets big...shit play folla's. He needs to drop 6lb, he'll stop slipping like a new born roe deer then.
