He's now aiming to get some minutes against Norwich.
De Bruyne scores more goals and creates more chances but Silva allows us to dictate games and control possession. De Bruyne is more direct. Silva will take the ball in a tight situation, control it, pirouette and pass it of leaving us comfortable, but when it comes to turning possession into chances and goals, de Bruyne is as good as anyoneI've seen a few people on other threads trying to argue that De Bruyne is a more important player for us, or even a better player than David Silva. This shows a fundamental ignorance of what an incredible player Silva is for us.
De Bruyne was poor on Wednesday night, but he stepped up when it mattered, held his nerve and won us the game. He's a Match of the Day player for me. He can be quiet for long swathes of the game, needlessly give away possession and make the team look disjointed. But out of nowhere, he'll play an incredible pass, or he'll score an unbelievable goal and people will laud him as the second coming.
The difference with Silva is that he makes the whole team tick for 90 minutes. He dictates the whole way we play, he knits the team together. Football is not just played in the 5 seconds before a goal, football is played over 90 odd minutes. During the whole game, Silva's influence is immesaurable to us. He creates space for others, always gives us an option in tight spaces, exploits weaknesses in the opposition, plays defence splitting passes that others cannot even imagine. He's arguably the best player ever to play for the club. Certainly the best I have ever seen, by some distance.
De Bruyne is a fine player, but after 7 games, to even mention him in the same breath as Silva, is sacrilege.
