Could mangala play left back??

He can, played there a fair bit for Porto whenever Alex Sandro was injured. If Pellers really doesn't trust Kolarov to do the job defensively then it might be worth playing Mangala there, as Clichy is a trainwreck

Could city move zabba over to left back and sagna at right back - sure Mancini played zabba in that position a few times and azpilcueta seems to do it ok, I.e. a right footed left back.

I think the last thing to do with the best right back in the world is to move him over to the left, where, if I remember correctly he looked distinctly uncomfortable. Pellers gave Kolorov a new contract over the summer and that doesn't suggest dissatisfaction!

We don't get to find out very often because for some reason Pellegrini thinks Clichy is still up to it.

Allardyce’s cutting remarks about Mangala will mean he is likely to become a marked man in the Premier League and the weak link in City’s title bid.

“They leave him exposed,” said Allardyce. “He’s only just joined the Premier League. They don’t protect him. You can get down the side of him, with the space Gael Clichy leaves.

“Vincent Kompany is used to it, this lad’s not, and we made big strides down that left-hand side and caused them lots of problems. Maybe there should have been a bit more ­protection for them from other players.

“We all know Manchester City come away from home and attack you. We’ve seen a lot this season about those spaces they leave can be exploited by other teams. We exploited that space brilliantly.”

It's a problem when your leftback is leaving your centre-back exposed like that. It's a huge problem if said leftback also offers nothing going forward by way of compensation.

Time for City to consider 3 at the back with Kolorov as Left Wing Back and Zabaleta as Right Wing Back.

Fact is both players must play yet in a 4 not only can they get forward, their natural progress is hindered by Navas and either Nasri or Silva, all of 3 of which can't cross or dither and miss the opportunity.

3 Centre Half's with Kompany sweeping MDM and Nastasic (who lacks pace and positional know-how not to have a sweeper but is a better footballer than Mangala)

A diamond of Fernandinho (sat in front of MDM and Nastasic) Silva, Yaya and Nasri and Kun as lone striker.

No place for Navas, Dzeko, Fernandho, Clichy or Mangala, all of which offer nothing better than the above.

442 is dead and cannot carry luxury players who can't be arsed when the going gets tough.
