Has struggled for form recently, but we do leave him completely exposed, Kolarov and Clichy go bombing on often leaving him to cover the left side all on his own.
I thought he did OK tonight. He won some great challenges and showed some great skill. Sometimes he tries to be do clever when we are very exposed. Needs to reign that in a bit. He's going to be a really top centre-half for City. I am sure of that

I like his attitude too. Doesn't hide when it's not going well. There were a few players who did that tonight and just coasted through the game. He wasn't one of them

Re: Mangala

Needs taking out of the side before he's totally destroyed. It's not a good sign when teams are targeting you as the weak link

I didnt want this guy when the rumours were around that we were in for him,I wanted the Roma boy and stated so on this forum.Had seen Mangala make too many mistakes in games for Porto.

However, since I have watched him play for us my opinion has changed,he will come good for us I believe and as you say he does not hide when the going gets tough. So glad we bought him.

Re: Mangala

Looked exactly like this in two games I saw him play for Porto last season (saw him three times, was great in one game and terrible in two others).

When we paid £30+m for him I was flabbergasted.

In sure he'll improve all round but will his erraticness and rawness be part of that improvement?

Re: Mangala

Once our manager sticks with the same defensive minded players around him for 4 or 5 games he will be fine.
While Pellegrini keeps chopping and changing he will disappoint.

Re: Mangala

I thought he was shit tonight. Should have been s penalty on the corner when he headlocked the guy. Extremely sloppy passing and although he didn't give away possession for the gol he didn't do enough. You could see the striker was going to pull the trigger on the shot and any good defender commits to a slide there to block but he didn't.

I pray de Michelis is picked for the derby.

Re: Mangala

Can I ask why anyone on this thread seems to think he'll turn into a great defender?
I've been following this since the Chelsea game where he was labelled the black Beckenbauer because he could hold his own in a scrap against a big striker and despite a shitload of poor performances since some seem convinced that he'll be top-class? Where on Earth have you got that idea?

Re: Mangala

No doubt those who are piling in to Eliaquim Mangala are the same ones who were slaughtering Martin Demichelis this time last year.

And see how that turned out.

Give the kid a break. He will come good. But the only way he will come good is by playing.

And the more he plays, the sooner he will get there.

However, I would play MD on Sunday alongside Vinnie.

Re: Mangala

he needs to sit down and learn the English game quickly ... focused on football, not the clubs' winter fashion photo shoots..
