He was being targeted yesterday by Newcastle just like Big Fat Sam said they did. You can't do much when your Left back doesn't really help you out. Thought he was pretty good in the air and atleast had drive. Remember him running all the way back from the corner to put off one of their players.
I didn't notice Newcastle targeting anyone. He was our strongest defender by far last night and possibly our best player though none played well.

I agree with those who say we should try and keep a settled back 4, but we should find that easier now.

Mangala is stand-out quality in my eyes. Maybe he takes a few risks in midfield when he doesn't need to, but I am glad we signed him.

The problems are elsewhere
I agree with this. Clearly can see that he has a winners' mentality, tremendous athlete etc. everything you can ask from CB. Demichelis was shit for the first 6 months, Javi Garcia was shit for one year etc. coming from Portuguese league or La Liga its not easy.

Re: Mangala

Can anybody name a CB who came to the league and was top class straight away?

The likes of Kompany, Vidic and Koscielny were poor at first.

Mangala has not been bad. He' getting the blame when established players like Sagna and Dzeko go missing

Re: Mangala

how the HELL do you think that he played better than MDM? MDM was shifted to the right and stopped two certain goals. Mangala got outpaced by a 17 year old and generally paniced and hooked the ball.

MDM and VK for the derby. PLEASE

Re: Mangala

What needs to happen now is that Manuel needs to meet with Mangala privately and tell him he is going to be the number one centre half at City for the next few years. But, for the next two months will be a support player only - to cover injuries and suspensions of MD and VK. In the meantime watch them closely and learn. He is 23 and has time. For the sake of this season he needs to tell Vinny and Martin you two will play every game for the next ten and I am relying on you to give us back the stability we had from Nov to May last year. Simple message but clear we have got to stop this rotation especially at the back. Same for the fullbacks so please Manuel stick with the same back four with Hart behind them until we can return to form and Sagna can do the community work!

Re: Mangala

I think he will be great after getting used to the pace of the premier league and the physical side ,which he seems to handle already. he looks very skilful and extremely fast. He gave the ball away last night after he had just won it , and he raced back in the left side of the centre and overtook several players who had a start on him. Bet he is quick over 50yards or so. Its just unfortunate the way the results are going at the moment, no luck springs to mind.

Re: Mangala

Happens often when young central defenders come into a new team.

He has all the required abilities to be a great player for City but is too nervous at the moment & it's affecting his decision making. He is not a hider though like most of the others we have tried in recent times.

Get back to last season's best defensive back 4 & work from there.

The rest of the defenders are all playing like wankers, even the best ones, at the moment & that can't be easy for him to get his shit together. Get them playing again, then introduce him here and there over the course of the season.

If anything Mangala is doing too much. Taking the ball out of defence, or stepping up from defence and winning balls in midfield and trying to beat a man when he is the last man.

He doesn't need to do those things, but I like his attitude. Kompany, Zabaleta taking out Hart at West Ham etc havemade just as many mistakes recently

I'd like to stick if possible with Clichy, Mangala, Kompany, and Zabaleta. With Hart behind and Fernando in front that's a fantastic defensive unit

When you write those names down I think why aren't we doing better.
