Re: Mangala

I wonder what opinions would be if he wasn't our player.....let's say he was a United player right now, would people still be of the same opinion that he's a champion, world beater in the making etc.

I think there is a lot of overstating of his ability. IMO he will just be an okish defender, never going to be world class but not terrible.

Disagree with this, he has already shown a huge range of skills with us, his passing is good both short and long range, he is incredibly physical and has pace. He also has a lot of top level experience for his age. If you were scouting him you would say there is very little missing from his game, he could well develop to be a true world class defender.

He has had wobbly moments when we as a team have played poorly but as I and others have pointed out, our left side is our obvious weakness and when Mangala has looked off form it is when we are allowing to much space on the left. MDM has suffered the same issue and even VK has looked rash at times as we leave our CBs exposed quite often.

We are an expansive attacking team. If you put Mangala in a more defensive team with a reliable LB and a disciplined 4 or 5 man midfield in front and he would look a better player i.e. the type of game we played in Rome.

Can't be arsed copying the Burnley match report link from the Indepedent but it's worth noting Ian Herbert has him as a £40 million purchase.

Now why would a football journo qoute that figure?

Because that's what he cost?

If demi can play again on thurs i would put vinnie in with him and leave this kid out till the cup game

the only way for him to sharpen up is games. I say play him.
I'd play him too, but not with Kolarov, he needs games right now, he has all the attributes to become one of the best defenders in the world, leaving him out isn't the answer.

People have made the point before but it bears repeating: our team is a difficult one in which to be a defender. Our style of play makes major demands on the centre backs.

Re: Mangala

Struggled against both Berahino and Ings. It seem to be the initial turn of pace he doesn't react too. WBA were in the match as much as Burnley, they had better chances than us which Berahino squandered.

I don't think he struggled with Berahino at all, that was Demichelis. Berahino was running across Demi and in behind Mangala, he was Demi's to track as he's the one who can see him, Mangala has to stay where he is to try and cut down the passing lane (which he did, meaning the passes had to be wide in order to get past him, leaving Berahinio with too narrow an angle for him to finish).

Obviously people will disagree, as Demichelis seems to have become untouchable now on here and immune from any blame for anything, whereas Mangala is new, so automatically at fault.

Re: Mangala

Has pace, physical power, brilliant in the air and at a young age with loads of experience already. Downsides are is extremely rash at diving in, gets caught in no mans land at times and if something goes wrong early on seems to lose confidence and treats the ball like a hot potato! All in all though he could be a beast for years to come and we will have to be patient with him, support him and let manuel do his bit with him and make him permanently what we seen against chelsea.

He was done 1 v 1 down his left, half stuck out his leg and pulled it back. It was WBA targeting him not me, as he is the left Centre back he needs to deal with a forward in the inside right channel.
