Player topic: Frank Lampard (2014/15)

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

We really need to make the decision to be upfront about things, it should have been that way from day 1.

It's an issue that will die away as soon as we stop handing the media live grenades to lob at us.

This could potentially be the end for someone at City. This has been pretty much a disaster from a PR perspective and somebody will be responsible.

You can sign a pre contract with a club, which is what he did for NYCFC last summer to start in Jan

He hadn't signed a playing contract as the club wasnt playing games

All that does is add further confusion.

City said he signed for New York. Then he didn't. Now he did again.

You can't hold a contract with two different clubs at the same time

He could not sign a MSL contract with NYCFC last summer because they wasn't a MSL league team. MSL players also sign a contract with the MSL league. So he could only sign a head-of-terms agreement (a non-binding document outlining the main issues relevant to a tentative (partnership or other) agreement.) with CFG, so he was perfectly free to sign a contract with City, no problemas what so ever.

The problem here is how the deal was announced by NYCFC in the first place, and its hard to blame anybody over there because at the time it wasn't planned that Frank was going to City, so its possible that when the news about Lampard joining City broke that the paper work wasn't in place and thats why it incorrectly first was reported as a loan.

“That is what has frustrated me, that people were sort of saying to me, ‘You knew what you were doing.’ I never would have done that. If I had wanted to come to Man City, then I would stand up and come to Man City. That wouldn't have been a problem. And in terms of Man City being ‘sneaky’, they could have signed me on a free anyway if that’s what they and I had wanted to do. People mention Financial Fair Play, but what difference would that have made? No difference.”
Lampard

Sums it up.

Absolutely. The media are making a meal out if this, saying we've treated nycfc unfairly. What do they care, it's a brand new team in the us set up by manchester city. It's like they're bothered about a franchise set up in America, anything to give city a good bashing. I find it bizarre. Scraping the barrel comes to mind.

Can't blame the media, the media will do what the media does: make a mountain out of a molehill.

This is the City group PR department that have caused this.

Just sat in the bar at Piccadilly station and opened up the mail to see the headlines across a double page spread
City's name in tatters

Pretty conservative I thought, huh
