Player topic: Frank Lampard (2014/15)

We all knew he was a fantastic player before this season but I admit to a whole new level of admiration for him having seen him play for us. Obviously his legs are on the wane but you can still admire how he plays.

I know I shouldn't be but I am genuinely staggered that there's next to nothing from the media in the build up to his last ever Premier League game, a true league legend and a seemingly thoroughly nice guy.

You can't teach the way he plays the game, just natural instinct and intelligence to consistently be in the right place and the right time. Would love for him to sign off with a goal and a resounding chorus of "Super Frank".

I think I like even more now .
Thanks Frank for this season .
My highlight was Frank scoring against Chelsea .

All the best Lampard. You were always and will always be better than Gerrard.

Legend.

P.S. Please come back, I'm sick to death of all the Dipper pundits.

Not quite: Lampard has right wing views, is openly supportive of the Conservatives and has even indicated that he wants to go into politics.

Mine as well, 6 Blues in a bar full of Chelsea on Crete, when Frank scored the looks on their faces was something I will never forget, Mrs Undies jumped on a chair and gave them the full rendition of ''super Frankie Lampard'' to be fair they applauded her :)

It takes a ridiculous lack of self awareness and cynicism to believe that just everyone who disagrees with you politically is evil. If you weren't blinded by your ideology it would be easy for you to see that Lampard is a class act.

That's a really good shout. We'd have our first member of the footballing establishment within the media. Someone who played for us after takeover, who seems to have developed a real affection for the club. Just what we need. A positive thing in terms of that is his character and intelligence. He's bright enough to have his own mind and he'll be prepared to criticise the club when it deserves it - plus he'll convey the message in a way that's clear and articulate. His first love will always be Chelsea, but I reckon he'd fight our corner as much as he was able.

Completely agree. Some of the kindest, most generous, thoughtful people I know are Tories. To paint people's character in such simple terms is hopelessly simplistic and more than a little depressing.

And just for a bit of balance: some of the most miserable, humourless, surly people I know are Labour supporters.

This article makes a great point. Lampard has been the more impressive player with the more impressive career, yet isn't getting anything close to the adoration Gerrard is. Gerrard probably has more natural talent, but that only shows the amount of work Lampard has put into his game to become the player he has. No midfielder has been able to consistently score as many goals as he has in the premier league. This comes as no surprise, especially after watching him play this season, where despite his lack of pace and fancy tricks, he is able to use his incredibly high football IQ to time his runs into the box with perfection to score crucial goals. Unlike Gerrard, who hasn't been effective for some time (despite what the media says), Lampard still hasn't lost this ability even with age. I hope our youth academy uses Lampard as a model both for his work ethic and his reading of the game. I also bet Lampard will have more of an impact in the MLS than Gerrard, as Gerrard seems to be treating it as a joke.
