Player topic: Jesus Navas (2014/15)

Re: Jesus Navas, good but.....

I really don't get Jesus at all.
Doesn't seem to want to beat a man, slows attacks to the point of overkill and the number of times he takes a second, third or fourth touch when in space instead if crossing is beyond belief.

Would love him to succeed as flying wingers are one of my great loves of the game now that my previous favourites, bone-crunch tackling centre halves have been outlawed

Only looks good against lacklustre defences, and for me he just doesn't take anyone on enough or at all. He sees the man in front of him, shits himself and turns around. He can put in a decent cross once he can get close to the byline, but that doesn't occur often enough to warrant a place in the starting 11. Seems as If his pace is wasted on him. Jimmy starting all day long for me.

If we see it then surely the coaching team sees it too. He's got the skill and the pace to be a deadly threat surely it's just about having a word in his ear and take the fucker on or is that just too simple. To me it looks like an easy fix. I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Pellergrini doesn't see this as a weakness in his game.

Re: Jesus Navas, good but.....

He's just not very good

When the chips are down he isn't going to come up with something to pull us out the shit

When Nasri is fit again, navas is behind him Milner and Jovetic at the moment

I think like rather too many of our players right now, he's just going through a rather shit patch.

When he started playing for us last season, he was sprinting down the wing past everyone and banging crosses in for fun. Since then, defenders have got a bit wiser and often double up against him, so it's become more difficult. But that's not the whole story. The other half of the story is that he's lost confidence and is playing shite.

Re: Jesus Navas, good but.....

I agree. It is frustrating that he doesn't take his man on but it is obvious that he is not that kind of player. But I'll give him credit for one thing, he definitely knows how to pick his man out with a low cross in the middle. Aguero should have buried that chance!!!

It pains me deeply that we missed DiMaria. He is the one player I wanted!!!!

Haha, genuinely can't remember a period where this was ever happening. Unless he gets the ball in at least 10 yards of space then chances are he won't get the cross in.

I couldn't believe Navas managed to blag his way through a full 90 yesterday. People falling over themselves to slate Yaya/Mangala/Clichy etc, maybe Navas escapes criticism because he consistently offers nothing (aside from the occasional cross when in 10 yards of space, as mentioned).

If he starts any non cup game over Jovetic/Milner/Nasri for the foreseeable then I give up.

Refute it then?

Navas should go back and watch tape of Sakho and Valencia yesterday, beating players for fun with their blistering pace. Then watch tape of himself slowing down every attack we have and consistently failing to get anything out of a fullback that played on a booking from about 5 minutes in.
