Then you are blind.
He scores one goal in over 60 games and all the giddys on here go into overdrive... predictable.

His run and vision yesterday was great, the ball Sergio put through meant it was impossible (well almost, it is Navas after all) for him to miss... Even me being (in your words) blind, in that position would have scored... though as I said earlier all credit for the run. His first contribution to game in over a year. Not really the standard I expect.

I don't think we are better with him on the pitch. He certainly does not contribute where it matters.

This data from earlier in the thread suggest you are wrong:

If we look at the league:

Matches with Navas starting: 8 wins 2 losses. 80% win rate.
Matches without Navas starting: 4 wins 3 draws 3 losses. 40% win rate.

Including cups:

Matches with Navas starting: 5 wins 1 loss. 83.33% win rate.
Matches without Navas starting: 2 win 2 losses - both wins were against Gladbach, and both we were losing before Navas came on. 50% win rate

Totals:
Navas starts 13 wins 3 losses 0 draws. 81.25% win rate.
Navas doesn't start 6 wins 5 losses 3 draws; with 2 wins occuring from losing positions only after Navas came on. 42.85% win rate

There are numerous examples of him coming on at a time we weren't doing well and us going on to win (e.g. Watford, Newcastle, Borussia etc).

Such stats are from a very small sample and can be misleading. Maybe MP selects him to start more at home or doesn't select him for the very hardest games? Whatever, I agree he works very hard. He tracks back well and hopefully his confidence will improve getting that goal. He has brilliant pace but his decision making and intelligence can sometimes let him down.

Sounds more like you have taken a position on him and despite evidence to the contrary, you're going to stick to it no matter what.

That finish yesterday on his left foot wasn't that easy either. It wasn't exactly a tap in.

Yet he has often started in the harder games due to his work rate. Also there have been times when he has come on with us in not good shape and we have gone on to win.

My memories not great and I can't be bothered checking which games he started and which he didn't but i can remember that he didn't start in 2 of our easier games (Newcastle and Villa). We were struggling against Newcastle in the first half and he came on at half time and we went to win comfortably. He came on against Villa and while we didn't go on to win, he created sitters which Sterling and KDB missed. He started the first games of the season which we looked at our best and he started against Seville which was possibly our best performance.

He's been one of our most consistent performers this season and while not in the same class as some of our other players, he makes us a better team at present.

Just took a quick look at our biggest PL games:
He started the Chelsea home game and was taken off at 65 mins when we were 1 nil up, we won 3-0.
He didn't start Utd away but came on for last 35 mins in the 0-0 draw.
He didn't start Arsenal away but came on for 17 minutes at the end when we pressed well in the 2-1 loss.
He didn't start the Spurs away game, came on at 56min when we were 2-1 down, we lost 4-1.
He started the Liverpool home game and was taken off at HT, when we were 3-1 down. We lost 4-1

I don't mind Navas, you know what you get, he works hard but he takes wrong decisions at crucial times, we mustn't start to think he is a world beater.

For where we want the club to be, (CL winners), I think he is a squad player at best.

I agree, I don't rate him. I thought when he came here he was going to be fantastic, and to be fair he was, he scored goals, he crossed and found players and created goals and I thought was a great prospect. Sadly since then I get frustrated whenever he crosses and finds the first defender which is nearly every time, I get frustrated when runs down the line with the ball and then runs back to the halfway with it, I get frustrated when he always looks for the dead easy pass instead of picking a pass like KDB, Silva and Yaya can do.

I expect more and just cannot find many examples of where he has added value to the team.

Answer me this, if you have to pick three or four midfielders to start against say for example United - and you have the choice of KDB, Sterling, Yaya, Silva and Navas, who would you put on the bench. Genuine question and interested to know.

I think at the moment he should be in the starting 11. I certainly don't think he's a world beater but I do think he makes us a better team at present.

Why the fuck do people keep stating that load of bollocks.Nobody thinks he`s world beater but some or most can see he`s more of a nuisance for opposition defenders, who hate a speed merchant. But the bloke works his knackers off, which is more than 8 others did last night. What you see is what you get with Navas,a very good professional, who works like fuck for the team and has the capacity and nous to help out at the back. You should try telling his useless fucking midfield partners to do the same and we`d be pissing this league and last nights game.

I assume you mean attacking midfield players as there was no Fernandinho or Delph there. For most games I'd play:

.........Fernandinho...Toure

Navas.........Silva..........Sterling

Sterling would rotate with KDB and Delph would come in for Toure in games where more defensive capabilities are required. As I have said it's not about the best 11 players but the best team and right now I would always include Navas and Fernandinho in that.

Maybe in the future we'll sign better players or find a way to include all of our 'better' players without it damaging us but until then I'm happy with Navas.
