Really interesting......... I agree that Joe should be replaced as his 0.046 backstop average is not good enough for a man on our goal crease........................ycnmiu.
He already has and more.
The first goal is save able, for a top goalie, as he has LOS. Hart's has an inherent weakness .. not great reading, anticipation, positioning and quick reaction or reflexes due to his large size or frame, that led to goals especially on the left side. It was not a grass cutter by any stretch.

Likewise 2nd goal he was hoping to backstop (with his butterfly style or stretched arms -- a reactive exercise ) rather than being proactive.

These are my observations and it also dovetailed with the notion that he is not comfortable with his feet or distribution due to his lack of 'football skills or football nous' in augmenting or strengthening our back four and our dominating brand of football rather than the 'hoofed and lumped football' that Hart displayed. Very exasperating to see that when he has the time and space to distribute with his feet.

As some of us posted he is a weak link which as a top WC club we need to address. We can't be sentimental just because he is English. We need a top notch GK that is head and shoulder above the typical quintessential goalie in the modern era of football.

Buffon says hot. This buffoon says not. Audience, you decide.

Yes Joe is the weak link when we compare our City team with great or good CL team like BM.
Neuer is much superior and does augment and strengthen his back four.
Does Joe?
On the other hand our other players are more or less comparable with them.
That's why Guardiola, a former great defensive MF, is cognizant of that and perhaps chose BM over City.

Buffoon.

Think Hart is a very very good keeper but I do have one or two reservations and always have had. These are lie to his left and quick, accurate distribution.
I think in a mid table team he would win player of the year most years. He might even win PFA player of the year as well. The major issue I have with him is that he seems to excel when he's incredibly busy. At Birmingham he was fantastic. Games against Barcelona and Real Madrid he excelled. Could have been 10 springs to mind!!
He's made a top save at Everton last time we won the league and he most certainly earned us a point at Spurs one year (0-0 first game of the season).
My question is; how many games/points has he won for us? I appreciate some of that is very subjective, but De Gea qualified the rags for the champions league, almost single handedly. Although Joe seems like a top bloke, is English and certainly has had some extraordinary games, is he good enough, in the other aspects of what now constitutes being a top class keeper? That'll be in distribution, sweeping up and that almost indefineable quality of just being very very good, at the exact right time. These are getting skills that separate great from world class. It applies to all positions and I, for one, think that he will be remembered as great but not world class.

Neuer is the best goalkeeper in the world and a one off. There are not many keepers above Hart and soon even less with buffon's days numberd and Casillas fall from grace.

The thing about it is, is we see Joe every week, so when he has his dodgy moments, we think he's not as good as other keepers because we see those mistakes more frequently, but that's only because we watch him more. The more you watch Neuer, Casillas, De Gea, Lloris etc, the more mistakes you see them make, sure Neuer is better, but he's not perfect, I've seen him make a fair few errors. There isn't a massive disparity between him and Hart, only between the amount City fans watch either keeper.

It's the reverse of the AJ disparity. City fans watched him all the time and knew he was just a super-sub, other fans saw him on MOTD and thought he was a star and thought we were wrong for not playing him more.

Top keeper. Has weaknesses like all players. Even messi (shite at penalties). This guy gave us the save of the season 5 months ago and has earnt us more points than he has lost us. Too many blues stick the knife in too many times to too many players in my opinion. We are the most successful club in Prem over last 5 years. Learn to celebrate it otherwise what is the point.

Good posts.

Joe is not our weakness at all. Last season he pulled off superb saves against QPR, Southampton, Swansea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus blah blah blah. He often pulled off multiple great saves in each match. People talk about Messi v Hart last season but every everyone seems to have forgotten how pissed off Charlie Austin must have been.

He's one of, if not the best in the world at one-on-ones. He's one of the few goalkeepers I actually expect to save when a striker goes through on goal. And yes, he has his shortcomings; his detractors won't ever let us forget. However, like others have said, they're highlighted because we watch him every week. Plus, every goalkeeper has their weaknesses. Neuer, for instance, is hopeless one-on-one when the player just takes an early low shot; he just can't get down quick enough.

Joe isn't the best goalkeeper of all time but to call him the weak link in a team that has some of the most inconsistent full backs in the world is ridiculous. And that's not a dig at any of our players, I'd just happily point out that Joe has saved us a great deal more points than 90% of the rest of the squad.

I think Joe is a good keeper and one of the best shot stoppers around but his distribution & coming out for crosses/corners are his main weaknesses. You can almost see the fear in our defenders when the opposition gain a corner. Too many times he flaps or miss judged a cross, im not a fan of punching the ball out its too dodgy as we have seen in the past.

Ill even forgive Joe for that 35 yarder he conceded at his near post against West Ham as I just think that was a sweet strike but as a keeper he is good but there are better out there and for him being not far apart from Neuer is a silly statement. Neuer is far more than a keeper he is a sweeper too so he will make mistakes as he is almost another outfield player but he does all his keeping skills with class, if he comes for a corner he gets there

Oh and someone mentioned that Joe has one us more points than lost i dont think than is an accurate one it will be close maybe in champs league hes kept us in it but in league we should of had more clean sheets hats for sure even tho our record on that front is a good one.
