Player Topic: Navas.....

The closer we get to Pep and what I presume will be an exit for Navas the more I think he has been one of the most misunderstood players post takeover. The amount of times he fizzes balls across the 6 yd box without our players getting anywhere near the ball is a mystery.

Paul Moulden would've scored 30 goals a season playing with Navas.

i do chuckle when he gets into an attacking position then gets pressed or harried by a defender and ends up running nearly full tilt back over into his own half, good old Navas.

he's a good squad player, but given another wide signing here or there, he will fall down the pecking order.

You've got to remember that we're only playing one up front for most of this season so Navas doesn't have a big target to hit.

If the one attacking player is not advancing to the best position then Navas is going to wait a split-second and then has less chance of making a successful cross.

He's good value for the money so it's a keep for next season from me. Great defensively and good on the break.

Been excellent this season. Far better than most but once you get saddled with a cliche it sticks.
Trying to cross to one of the smallest strikers in football playing in a lone role can't be easy.
Pep will like working with him.

I completely agree. He has a fantastic attitude and I think Pep will help his game enormously. I watched Spuds last week and what was marked was when they put Navas like crosses into the box, there were three or four players busting a gut to get on the end of them. We just don't do that. But we will next season :-).

Exactly.
Sometimes instead of the go to "why can't he find a player?" It should be "why can't a player find the ball?"
We do need to commit more in the opposing area sometimes instead of queuing up to be creative on the edge of it.

I think he'd be a better full back, i think he's naturally more reactive as a footballer.
He covers some ground too, ideal for the role.

He's this quick.

If all people can use to justify his place is his work rate and defensive work then surely he'd be better as a RB than an attacking winger? Sterling has been slagged off for everything from his crossing to his finishing but he has contributed more goals in one season than Navas has in 3 fucking years here. He may be a good rotation option but no fucking way is Pep going to accept a winger who hits the first man most of the game and has scored 8 goals in 3 seasons.

Conversely, will he accept a winger who falls over at the nearest sign of contact, has a dreadful first touch and loses the ball more often than not?
