Stuck this in wrong thread, thought I was in here:

Sterling has already had seasons in the Prem. The thing that gets me though is that some of our fans can't see a work in progress - especially when he cost a lot of money

His finishing is a weakness but as somebody else mentioned, he could have legit had 20 goals by now if he was good at it. He's a young lad, 3 years younger than the Lingard rag who everybody is saying needs time to develop.

If a 20 year old is missing 20 goals in 3 months then I think some people should think about how talented he has to be to get into those positions that often, and how big a player he'll be for us after a few years working on his weaknesses with our coaches. He reminds me not on talent but on attitude of Ronaldo when he was at United. He was seen as a diving waster who was never going to be good enough and kept either skying it over or jumping on the ground. He turned out alright. Sterling is spectacularly young, we have players in our youth team who are older than him.

Spectacularly young. I've fucking heard it all now. He's not 6.

I've been critical of Sterlings touch, shooting, passing as he does have poor technique and is very feeble with everything but I do believe he can improve and do believe he will ( maybe a tad more hope ), not enough to become great but enough to become an effective player. I just hope someone is Genuinely trying to help him rather than gloss it over out of fear of embarrassing the lad.

You're probably right, but a striker he isn't at this stage of his carreer, and he offered nothing tonight to help us get a goal, just ran a lot. I've no problem with supporting the lad, but play him in his most effective role, and its not as a number 9 (or 10) at the moment. He'll become a good player for us, if he's played in the right way, that run out tonight won't improve him imho.

There's two schools of thought here though - do you play him in the position where he needs to learn to give him experience of it or do you play him in the position where he's best at the potential cost of his development? Purely on a selfish level, playing him as an out and out striker as both Rodgers and now Pellers have done is really what's best for him.

However, this is seemingly not what's best for the team at large as you point out because he's often ineffectual for the time being.

Comparisons to, and accusations that he's worse than SWP, are of course Bluemoonisms.

No he's 20 as I mentioned numerous times. He's the same age as Calum Chambers.

Or to make this a City thing, he's the same age as Jason Denayer and Karim Rekik. Or Devante Cole

If he'd have stuck the excellent chance away in the home leg when we was 1-0 up, tonight's miss would have been academic but to miss 2 chances in big games has cost us dearly
