Absurd. Absolutely absurd.

If I was to say that Jo was shite would you still be posting videos of Messi missing sitters?

In no way are they comparable. Messi has been the best player in the world for a good 6 years, Sterling wasn't nearly the best player at a mid table Liverpool side.

How is it absurd? The guy moaned about how our £45m player missed from five yards and then he responded with a video of the best and most valuable player of his generation missing just as easy a chance against us, just to make the whole thing more relevant.

Don't you bad mouth Jo, the man is a saint.

I thought Sterling was just what we needed when we signed him - pace, direct, another dimension to our play. He started off in that kind of vein but has gradually petered out to be utterly frustrating - bordering useless!

Undoubtedly this will be partly down to not having Silva in the team who helps create space for every other player in a blue shirt! However, I really worry that he is reliant on others to get the best out of him and that in fact he is simply not as good as what I first thought he was.

Yes he's young and yes it's not his fault how much he cost - but there's a reason (You'd have thought) why he cost so much and you'd expect him to deliver more than what he has...

Shall we play the "Potential card"....

It's just a weak argument imo.

If I made the point that I can't play football very good and was particularly shite at beating a man, it's not ok to post videos of Messi, Robben, Maradona or whoever else trying and failing to beat a man. It doesn't put me on the same level as any of them.

Now, where Sterling's a better player than me it should be noted that Messi is 100 times the player that Sterling will ever be. Please don't counter an argument against someone stating his finishing is rotten with a video showing where Messi's finishing has also been rotten. It means nothing.

Sorry about the Jo input though...that was uncalled for ;)

Very poor miss no doubt, but there's rarely a game that goes by where he doesn't cause danger - I would be much more worried if he wasn't having chances.

His movement is very good, he's pacey, he can play quick 1-2's & has shown that he can score.

No doubt he's got a lot of improvement to be had, and has some very visible weaknesses - but compare him to someone like Navas for instance; whilst Navas does a job, Sterling looks far more dangerous every game, a constant goal threat & has scored a fair number for us already even with his wastefulness.

I totally understand where the frustration is with him, but for me I'm not going to worry about him until he stops creating/getting chances. He can have the odd howler (tonights was costly unfortunately) if he's still a danger, scoring & improving for us.

I'm willing to give him more than 4 months before calling him a dud. If we're still having this conversation in 12 months then I might concede it's not working.
He hasn't helped himself with the couple of important sitters he's recently missed so I accept he's going to be under the cosh. I Still maintain he's a better player than being given credit for at the moment though.

His movement is very good
His movement tonight was completely pointless for the most part, because he was out of position for such an important game, he's a winger, a decent one, but he's not yet a striker, could he become one, yes probably, but not by being used like that in games like tonight.

Play him there against Hull at home, not Juventus away.

I agree, he's not a striker, he's a winger. I was talking generally though, not basing that on his short cameo tonight.

You can't blame him for Bony & Aguero's injuries though, Pellegrini tells him to play there he doesn't have much choice.

Behind Aguero he's been our biggest goal threat this year, imagine he'll always be fairly wasteful (& frustrating) but if he keeps playing as he is, and Silva returns, then he's going to score a hatful of goals this season & in future ones with the amount of chances he gets. I for one (maybe one of the few by sounds of it..) can accept that.

But him saying things like "you can't miss from there" is the real absurd statement because Raheem and countless others, including the very best, have missed from there and will carry on missing from there. I don't think anyone was trying to compare Sterling to Messi.

And saying Messi is 100 times the player Sterling will ever be is just a total guess and is in itself absurd because it means nothing and we will never have any reasonable way to gauge if you are/ were right.

Everyone (not necessarily yourself) keeps paying attention to the misses without realising that he carries on getting into those positions game after game and will continue to do so. You wouldn't even get into Al Shabab's team if you didn't have the ability to score from there. So logic would suggest he's either going to be the worst finisher of all time or,in my opinion, more likely start scoring plenty at some point as anyone with any kind of professional ability will if they can carve out those chances consistently.

I don't disagree with you, I've got faith he will too, but tonight's game wasn't the one to make him a number 9, when he's not a number 9 (or even 10) right now, there are games you can do that to better his development, tonight wasn't one of them imho.

Ironically, he'd be absolutely perfect in Klopp's Liverpool team. Not what we need, maybe Liverpool would give us half of our money back?
