Player topic: Stevan Jovetic (2014/15)

Fair point. I think he needs to really step up now until the end of the season, otherwise I suspect we'll be looking to offload him in the summer.

Yeah, I don't think he lacks football brains. I'm just not sure he's suited to our system.

We rely on retaining the ball, whereas Jovetic is happy to take risks with his lay offs and dummies. Most of his team mates aren't on the same wavelength so we often concede possession, which is why I think Pellegrini doesn't fully trust him.

I thought he did well when he came off the bench on Sunday though - we certainly created more with him on the pitch.
He did do well when he came o. V arsenal, but he keeps on playing 'quite well' without doing a great deal

I don't think 5 goals and 2 assists is bad in 9 league starts to be honest, but for whatever reason I still find it hard to shake the feeling that it's just not meant to be for him at City. Could end up being a Forlan-type situation where he moves abroad and is excellent, but he just doesn't seem to be quite the right fit for us at the moment.

You are too rach on him.
I agree with most of your analysis, but i have seen enough of him to know that he is one of our most skilled player when it comes to trickery and dummies with the ball. He just has not enough confidence to take on opponents on a regular basis ( same critic to Nasri and Navas though :-) ).
My main concern about Jovetic is, to my opinion, that he lacks football brains, which is a terrible handicap when you are an AM type of player.

Cannot agree with that at all. Can you elaborate

What i call football brains is :

_ to know when to go for a simple pass instead of the Hollywood-one, to not brake a potential attack build-up
_ to have precise position awareness of your teammates around you
_ to not take chances systematically when you have a teammate in a much better position than you

Far too often, you can predict that an attack build-up or a possession play will brake as soon as the ball reaches-him.

Thanks. I cannot ague against any of your points, but he does also have qualities that are sadly lacking elsewhere, he doesn't hide, he is willing to take a shot from in and around the area, and when those holiwood passes do come off it has inevitably led to a positive outcome. I think he derserves another season to develp in the PL and hopefully better integrate with those immediately around him so they all have a common understanding and maybe anticipate his next move.

I agree and have already stated that to me, he is not the finished product yet.
The question is will the board and coaching staff give him the extra season to fulfill his promising potential.

I do believe we are in accord

His qualities are not good enough, at least not for City. He was given enough chances and i think if we have a better option, we need to take it immediately. The team need all support to continue competing in PL and in CL.

Or we could of found a suitable replacement (no chance this month!)

Teach him when to pick the simple option and he'll be in our top 5 players.

Has the technique, vision and attitude to match our best just needs some of the decision making that'll come with a few games on the trot.
