If we get him back fit we should manage him like Spurs did with Ledley King; one game per week max, no training, just gym work but no running, nothing that could cause the calf problem to flare up.

Maybe even just save him for away games or big games.

Sadly nothing will stop a calf muscle tearing. If you just happen to be vulnerable to such problems then no amount of rest will guarantee non injury.

I suffered terribly with calf problems from 30 onwards and had to admit, and after reading several medical articles, that ageing is the underlying cause of muscle shortening and subsequent tears, and no amount of rest turns back the clock.

My fear and belief, and I don't enjoy saying this, is that Kompany will play less that 25% of games going forward, and that he will retire in no more than 2 years from now.

Surely limiting the time of performing the activity that uses the calf muscle will decrease the chances of it tearing?

I'm guessing he's a lot more likely to tear it when he's training or playing than he is walking to the shops? So if we limit his playing/training time and just target him playing specific matches, at least we'd be in control of which 25% of games he plays?

I don't think a kompany return always looming helps mangala none. Needs to be weighed up whether having a world class crock that when fit will walk back into the team actually does more harm than good to the rest of the squad. Getting rid of Vinnie does seem unthinkable though.

What an utterly pointless exercise that would be. In fact detrimental to the team really. Imagine being the first choice CBs for 65% of matches then being told when it comes to the crunch games that you're not good enough. It'd be crushing on morale. And what's the point in having a Ferrari if you can't afford to run it?

If he becomes a Ledley King, he should either be back up or moved on, so we can build a stable spine to our team.

He'd probably be the best back up CB of all time but if that's what it takes for Kompany to feature then I'll take it

Once we get Denayer back, he can get a proper rest and only play specific matches. That seems to be the only way out.

3-4 months more like. No doubt he will play for Belgium in their next game though. Like I sai before I think he is finished at City. Or at the very least we cannot rely on him any more and expect him to be fit
