I hope he's not done a Torres in terms of defending. He looks so poor. Positionally all over the place, rushing out of defense, lunging widly into tackles.

Was absolutely bizarre watching his performance in the first half. Like a man who'd just wandered out onto the pitch having never really played at a high level before. His decision making was of a Sunday league standard. No idea what's going on with him but he needs to sort it out asap.

Agree mate, I think he often tries too hard, feels the need to step up, and often gets caught out, Im genuinely worried, as hes been poor for over a year now, and we can't afford to carry passengers.

Put him back in a defence with a lower defensive line and he would be fine. I don't think he suits the way we now play and never fully will do in all honesty.

Nothing to do with systems, his head is gone at the moment, and has been for nearly 18 months.

Fully agree with post. Vincent is getting the brunt of a lot of criticism over the past months. As I see it,we are playing too far up with a mid field who are either slow, cannot/will not tackle or just lazy and Vincent is trying to do two/three people's jobs. The solution is not to replace him but to get in players in midfield who are hungry, hard but fair, quick, savvy and can bolster the defence when required and step up further forward when needed (excluding Silva who is the best in the world at his job). Getting rid of Vincent will not, of itself, solve the current shambles of a defence, in my humble opinion.

It's hard to fathom but for whatever reason he's not looked the same player for a long time. I guess the way we play isn't helping. All too often the opposition just need to catch us in possession, or have our attacking break down and a big hoof down the middle for a big fast striker to run onto seems to kill us. Seems there's something more than personal defensive inadequecies of individual members of our back four, going on.

Another quintessential "blame everyone but the culprit" post. This is what I've been complaining about.
So Vincent plays poorly, but the solution is to :
Get a DeJong type in front of him
Move the high line down a bit
Get better defenders next to him so he doesn't need to do the job of 3 players.

This all sounds sensible until you point out Denayer, Mangala and Demichelis, all inferior players have looked more composed in the very same system, playing with the same shit defenders around them, and with no DeJong DM ahead of them. None of these guys have had as much practice at playing in a highline as Kompany has, yet somehow we are supposed to believe, Kompany, one of the most intelligent players on the squad, Suddenly lacks the intelligence to pick up the system others are able to in short order.

The goal here is not to save the shambles in defense, but rather to play the best performing players in defense. If Kompany is one of them once season starts, then good. But if he is not, then bench him.

Yet he bullied Costa and Rooney early last season. Maybe too many injuries. Too much going on off the pitch. I do think our defence is badly exposed and
that doesn't help.
