Some information seems to be overlooked in the whole VK/MP discussion. Although City did not want him to play, VK went to Belgium for the decisive 2 matches of Belgium's EC qualifiers. Belgium's medical and coaching staff left him out for the first match (v Andorra), and cleared him for the next one v Israel 4 days later. He was deemed fit and ready to play. This is not just an amateur-level little team, I am sure Belgium have a very professional medical staff. Although they were already qualified by now, VK decided he wanted to play (for 60 mins). Why? First, he was 100 % fit and had been training full throttle for 3 days, and second: he is their captain and leader - he brings the squad together (he is probably the only player who is fluent in both French and Dutch (apart from Lukaku), and he is the bridge between the French-speaking players (Fellaini, Hazard, Benteke, Mirallas,...) and the Flemish Dutch-speaking players like De Bruyne, Mertens, Vertonghen, Courtois, etc. The ALL look up to him as their leader and they ALL want him to play when he is fit. So he played for about an hour (played excellently, on top of his game) and walked off the pitch in perfect health, coming back to share and lead in the celebrations with 40000 crazy Belgian fans. Is that so strange/wrong? I am sure MP was upset at him disregarding 'team orders', but does anyone really think he would have played had he felt ANYTHING in that calf? For him then to come back to City and be benched for a PL match (being fit and playing his best football in years) is embarrassing at best, but being a team player he does not complain. Being brought on as a sub (being the team captain) in the 92nd minute of a CL game would be considered sheer humiliation by most players in his position, but he just congratulated KDB and afterwards, the team on a great win. Not sure if he can keep a brave face if MP keeps him out of the squad against Utd though - VK lives for the derby...

He has gone against 3 different managers by playing for Belgium when he was too injured to play for his team that pays his wages
He would rather risk his calf going again in a dead rubber game, that is not ok

So you're saying he deserves to be punished, although Mp denies that is what is going on? If so, for how much longer? Or do you think we have a better team without him?

None of us know exactly what happened, how fit he really was or what transpired between City and Marc Wilmots.

But you simply can't expect Manchester City fans to see how possibly risking his fitness for his country at the expense of his club is a good thing.

We're a club where every game counts these days. Fortunately we've got through two games without him but he and City have to balance risk and reward.

How would you feel as a Belgian fan if we'd played him in a crucial game when he was carrying an injury then said you that he's too injured to play? What would Wilmots' reaction have been?

For me the issue on this is that he's also our club captain, he's the leader and the one to set an example. If he doesn't follow the manager and clubs wishes/instructions, then what example does that set?

The who pays your wages argument is not valid. Any ambitious player wants to represent his country. You only look at this from a supporter view but not from VK's view. He took the captaincy over a small country when they were dog shit and losing to countries like Azerbeidjan. He took them from 85th on the FIFA ranking to n° 1. And rightly so he didn't want to miss the game that took them to the n° 1 spot. That spot may not mean anything to other fans but it means everything for the team and their captain that achieved this. All respect to VK:0 league goals conceded under his captaincy. You DON'T bench him when he's fit.

It's not up to the club and club manager to decide if a player plays for his country. The country manager with his own medical staff is the only one who decides that. All the rest is just crap.
