I agree he got caught out a few times and that rarely happens when he's on top of his game. If this continues Pellers may have a tough decision to make.

Can't agree at all with either post. Since his stinker in Munich, he's responded superbly. Work rate up, and whilst there may have been a couple of loose passes yesterday, there were a hell of a lot more excellent ones. Dzeko was MotM for me, but Ya Ya made things tick

I am with you EB. I did not see the whole game unfortunately but what I saw and Yaya's stats etc suggest that he ran the game, again. Obviously he had more touches on the ball than any other player. He completed 91% of his passes, half his passes were forwards, had four shots, including an absolute screamer, and made the most tackles of any City player. You only had too see him jumping all over Lamps and his team mates after the fourth goal to know that this is not a disinterested player.
It is a shame that his screamer hit the post, that was a brilliant strike of the ball and thoroughly deserved a goal. Imagine what that would have done to his confidence if it had resulted in a goal.

Re: Yaya?

What surprised me was how much better he looked played at the base of the diamond in the second half. Instead of relying on Fernando or Fernandinho to sweep up behind or alongside him, we had Navas and Milner attempting to close down Hull's midfielders in front of Yaya, so even though he was the deepest player he wasn't really tasked with playing as a defensive midfielder (although to give Yaya even more credit, he did actually perform his defensive duties much better in that second half too).

It reminded me a bit of Milan playing with Pirlo at the base of the diamond being flanked by Gattuso and Ambrosini (with Kaka or Seedorf played ahead of them), although in our case Milner and Navas offer much more going forward than that Milan pairing. The principle is similar though: they do the legwork for the deep-lying playmaker while offering support for the advanced playmaker (and also covering the fullbacks when necessary too).

I think the big improvement in both Yaya and Silva when we switched to the diamond will give Pellegrini cause to think. As far as I'm concerned Silva should always be played centrally ahead of the midfield where he can cause maximum damage to the opposition. If a narrower formation allows Yaya to control the ball from deep, it could be a useful option for us. Especially with Milner and Fernandinho lending themselves to that all-action role in the middle of the park.

Re: Yaya?

One step forwards another 2 steps back. For such a 'world class' player..he doesn't have disappear/ looks completely disinterested in Europe

Re: Yaya?

Get him gone in January, he's killing us. No energy whatsoever, he's a complete liability now. Whatever we can get for him, add that to the money we have left over and buy a replacement who is willing to actually be part of the team. Has to go, I appreciate what he did for us last season, but he is detroying us this year. January might be too late to save this season if he carries on like he is, but we need to start rebuilding for a life without him, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather see the two Ferns together, they cannot do any worse. Fuming, thought he was even worse today than against Bayern.

I'm actually beginning to think this too.. Annoying to watch him walk around and eventually whine if he's tackled, changed his mentality completely since last season!

Re: Yaya?

Look Pellegrini doesn't have the balls to drop him so we are just going to have to put up with his wage stealing performances until we can sell him.

Re: Yaya?

Only on the internet - wish we had Jordan Henderson instead.ffs
