I'd really like to see a few games without Yaya, as until this happens I'll be constantly wondering why we fail to play at pace in some games. Too often our playing tempo appears to be at walking pace until Yaya releases the ball, and even then it can often be a negative pass that simply recycles the ball back through our defenders.
He does have great passing ability, and retains the ball well, but surely one of his most important roles is to be the guy that keeps everything flowing. When he's not doing this our game is very much stop and start. He rarely presses the opposition (unless he decides to go on one of his runs), therefore gives them plenty of time to organise and close us down.
The Hull match is a difficult one to assess, as although we maintained far more pace in this game, we don't entirely know if this was due to the quality of opposition or an improvement because Yaya wasn't included.
As much as he has his great moments and has been sorely missed in the past when away in Africa, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more games without him. It's probably more to satisfy my own curiosity rather any solid reasoning, and therefore something Pellers may not risk.
