Players who might improve us

I think we are better placed than any other side to manage it. We already rotate far more than anyone else, I would just prefer to be rotating in players of a similar level to our 1st choices, or the player being someone like Lewis, who has the potential to be a mainstay in years to come. I mean we can rotate in the likes of Ake or Philips and they arguably do a job, but they’re hardly the future.

I will cut Philips some slack given the injuries since he arrived, but I would be amazed if he ends up as serious competition to Rodri. He just feels like another squad player to me, a position that Lavia could have filled for free.

Haaland and possibly Grealish aside, I cant think of anyone we have signed recently where they can either go straight into the side, or look like they have a genuine chance of dislodging the guy already in possession of the shirt. Some will look at Grealish now and say he wasn’t worth the money, but at least the club identified him as the future, showed conviction and went out and got him.

Teams don’t get better by consistently buying worse players than those already at the club. If we are going to spend, do it properly, sign the Bellinghams or the Gvardiols, they either go straight in, or are at the very least, similar level to whoever they would rotate with meaning the side isn’t significantly weakened by the rotation, as is the case now.
Lavia didn't want to fill a position of being backup to Rodri though, that is a problem we are always going to have. Our academy is packed full of talented players who get starts for half the league, we are going to struggle to keep hold of most of them.

I see where your coming from about buying a player capable of taking the shirt off someone else but it isn't as easy as that I don't believe. It may sound an easy sell but I reckon Txiki has spoken to several players and agents who aren't interested in joining because they don't want the competition.

I am sure we will go in for Bellingham in the summer but that is likely off the back of Gundogan and Bernardo leaving. Do we get the lad if they stay, probably not. He will go to liverpool where there is no competition.
Likewise for Gvardiol, does he want to come in and battle Dias, Laporte, Ake and Stones, or go to Chelsea for example and start straight away.

One major issue I believe we have is Pep refusing to budge on some things when he does rotate. On several occasions he has rotated this season but he still expects X to be at the same level as Y in that specific game and it doesn't happen. I admire the confidence/arrogance of it but its back fired this season.
We know Gomez is not as good as Cancelo but Pep insists they play the exact same way, its a recipe for disaster.

I know it’s a mad idea, but what about bringing Sterling back on loan for the rest of the season, given that Chelsea seemingly want to sell him?

Him and Pep kiss and make up, we stick him on the right wing and tell him to get to the ball to Erling? Go back to basics, release the handbrake and get some pace in the side.

Obviously not going to happen, but I think we need to do something a bit left field in this window to shake things up and snap the squad out of its slumber.

Looking at contracts up in 23/24 (that ive not seen with an offer on the table from the current club yet ie Leao/Saka etc)

SMS
Basebiani
Aouar
Oyarzabal
Dembele
Nico Williams

it we are throwing the ££ at Bellingham and losing Gundo maybe.

Mad as a box of frogs and won't happen.

Neco Williams is wank. This is pure desperation in trying to replace Cancelo and I would rather persist with Sergio Gomes and waste money on Williams.

Nico, not neco

right winger at Athletic Bilbao

Sergio Gomez is recommendation from a certain Vincent Kompany and Zinchenko's earlier performances weren't too clever either.

Just saw on twitter arsenal are going for him.
Our main wingers are possession based
They don't run in behind/Make crosses in for haaland/ cut in to shoot
Sad to see sometimes

Moussa Diaby quick winger with good record in Bundesliga.

I agree but I think most of us are tired watching the sideways and backwards passing. We've sacrificed the pace and incision of our attacks with Sane and Sterling and Pep's opted for a slower controlling play. Much preferred watching fast flowing football of a few years ago than the football we're playing at the moment.
I am soo agree. Missing those days .....

big overhaul in the summer for me:

In:

Bellingham
McAllister
Diaby
Gvardiol
Fran garcia

Out:

Bernardo
Gundogan
Laporte
Mendy
Borges
Delap
Mcatee
Doyle
Loads of the lads out on loan need sold as well , the likes of Herrera, Alexia Garcia etc

Lets see Mcatee & Doyle in the PL " hopefully" next season, and then decide if they are good enough for City or not.

I am sure its only matter of time and Mcatee will shine, and I think Doyle might reach Kalvin Philips level.

I’m sure everyone has said it but just thought I’d put my late night ideas in, we need a pacey winger, obviously, right footed, for me the only 3 options are.

Nico Williams -
The rogue option, only 20 would be easily the cheapest by some way, I really could see this, last player we brought from them was Laporte, (most realistic).

kvaratskhelia -
My personal choice but getting him out of Napoli will be extremely hard and we know what it’s like dealing with them.

Rafeal Leao -
The most expensive option by a mile, to think we nearly signed him from Sporting for around £8 mill, missed opportunity.
