Was gutted when we didn’t go for him in that recent window (after Grealish had already come) where he went to Spurs.

He took the piss in that first half yesterday and essentially controlled the play. Dropped deep to get it off the keeper, clever to get fouls where needed and wasn’t scared to put a foot in. And plays passes FORWARD!

Too late now. But would’ve loved him here.

bear in mind that last year in january when cancelo left , we approached leicester for him , but they didn't want to sell him

Im prepared to be shot down on this but with January transfers usually quite difficult, would people be interested in taking a punt on Douglas Luiz? Hasn't worked out for him at Juve but he could be a decent squad player surely given our lack of DM cover? Appreciate we need some actual top drawer transfers too, but they might have to wait til Summer.

I think we need a left back, a holding midfielder and a back up striker as a bare minimum asap.

Left back would allow us to play Josko centre back and also give us a different option at left back. We have never had a class left back. Three premier league left backs that would improve us:

Ait Nouri
Kerkez
Robinson

Holding midfielder goes without saying, Peps teams struggle to function without the CDM being perfect and up to speed. Kovacic is not a CDM. Zubimendi is the obvious choice and I think if we want him we will get him, whether Pep wants him is another story.

Back up striker, a bit tricker but theres no harm having an oldie here, look at Real Madrid with Joselu and Bayern/PSG with Chupo Moting. Lets spend 20m on a an oldish striker whos happy to play second fiddle and do a job when required, Chris Wood would have done a job for us but likely wont get him for 20m. A fit Callum Wilson would do a job, it doesnt need to be a superstar, this is assuming we cant get Delap back easy. Options in this department a bit limited, maybe we go back for Kyogo. I dont know for sure here.

Madisson was taken off at half time against west ham recently for tactical reasons and the two games before us was dropped playing a combined 14 mins across both games. he is the definition of a hot and cold player. He also threw in the towel at leicester the season they went down(not as much as tielmanns mind) and is a reason he is at spurs rather than a top top team. He also appears to be a divisive character with a lot to say, the opposite of what we have built.

Favorite Nigerian Fullback. Such a smart player. Not sure if he can step up to the highest level.

But love watching him in an often disjointed Nigerian squad.

Schlotterbeck from Dortmund is exactly what Pep wants from a CB; tall, quick a great passer from the back and is petty solid defensively.

Felix Nmecha’s really improved and looks like a tidy DM. Tall, quick, gets a few goals and assists, just recently started playing for Germany.

Can’t see us bringing back players for the sake of it. THB and Delap are both doing well and will be aware they might get time for a few months but will be hard to break into the team long term.

Let them develop more and let’s see.

These are the kind of the deals I can see us do in January. Ones that can be easily done. Only thing is we might want someone with the mentality to be high in confidence to make the mark right away.

Luiz could be a real asset though. Could be that 6/8 hybrid we’ve been crying out for.
