Players who underperformed at City but were great elsewhere

That’s a very formidable line up in their peak. I’m not sure Paddy Viera deserves to be there. I think he was pushing 35 when he was playing for us, and though frustrating and less mobile at times, he brought a mentality with him which was probably very important to how things started to shift for us.

Yeah I was trying to put a decent team line up of players who se peak was well above what we saw at CIty rather than imply that none of them did a job. I agree that Vieira Pearce and Toure in particular gave us reasonable service but in my view they were still nowhere near the players they were in their pomp. I was thinking of Demichaelis instead of Tore who again actually gave us good service for his first two season s any way but was not the player he had been.
I should may be have stuck Hamman in instead of Hargreaves as he was a better player. Schmeichel was probably better than Seamen at their best, but Schmeichel was not that far off his best when he had his season with us in my view, Kasper probably having a greater difference than his Dad.

The beauty of coming up with the alternative 11s and the reasoning with yourself. The stuff we remember when doing so.
Hamman is a good shout. The amount of cards he picked up for us for way too late challenges. I was expecting a similar result with Paddy Viera but thankfully he still had something about him. I think they were a similar age playing for the club too.

If memory serves me right, there was a huge difference between Schmeichel and Seaman’s performance for us. Seaman comin I’m dropping a few clangers. I think we all had hopes of a great keeper at least being safe and consistent. His level really dropped off.

Kasper did put in a good fight for the jersey when it was his time. It was exciting with him and Hart keeping the Swedish keeper out at the time. Also remember he was thrown in last minute in a Derby as a kid around the age 17.

Yup I think Schmeichel was excellent for the season whereas Seaman was a bit of a disaster, made me realise how quickly goalkeepers can age/lose form.

They really can. I think at the time I wanted Schmeichel to stay on. Another keeper to have declined under us to an extent, and I always rated him, was Shay Given, but he just wasn’t the same after the shoulder injuries.
He said recently he was moved on cos Mancini didn’t like him but his decline was noticeable. Was still a good keeper when he left, but not at the level he was at.
