Players You Have Met

Nigel De Jong signed my Everton programme last year. Saw him entering the stadium for the game. He was out injured at the time. Have also met Mike Milligan many moons ago in Manchester city centre. Was playing in the top-flight for Oldham at the time, under Joe Royle. It was in the summer. I asked him if the rumours he was joining Everton were true. He said no, he was staying at Oldham. A week later, he signs for Everton! Lying s--t!!! Probably a different thread, but have also met Noel Gallagher and John Stapleton outside the stadium aswell. Almost forgot, i met Mr Mancini himself in the City Store just before last xmas. He was buying a load of gear as presents, then went upstairs to have himself superimposed next to the FA cup! I think they have the photo up there somewhere! I bought the classic 2012 calendar, and he kindly signed it for me. Tried to pass him a pen, but he said no need as he already had his own black marker at the ready! Also met Colin Bell at a reserve match many years ago at Maine Road. Unfortunately, the game got called off due to it teeming it down. Oh, and i met Paul Scholes in McDonalds in Ashton Snipe Retail Park, when he "retired" last season, before he made his comeback. He was with his little boy.

Dennis Tueart not too long ago.

A few years ago, David Dunn in Subway on Deansgate (this was when he was at Birmingham) on a Friday or Saturday night. Was pissed off his face. But he's a quiet drunk, so that's good.

Good mate of mine met Mancini outside the City store on market street last summer. My mate's an Arsenal fan (unfortunately) but he said Mancini was a really nice guy asking him if he plays and about the team he coaches (my mate coaches kids football).

Unfortunately my mate couldn't resist ending the convo by telling Mancini Nasri is shit and he hopes City sign him (just in a joking way you know, this was shortly before we signed him).

Mancini told him "Fuuuukkk offff. You know nothing about football!". Legend.

Stephen Ireland for a twenty minute chat in Abu Dhabi a few years ago. Nice lad I thought. A few minutes with Vinny at Carrington through the fence when he was recovering from his toe injury. Another very pleasant chap who likes dogs. I also sat next to Martin Petrov at Stockport County wnen Bojinov had his comeback, good bloke etc

-- Fri Aug 03, 2012 8:13 am --

Fabien Barthez - and what an arrogant **** he was. I used to operate a truck mounted cherry picker and we got a job on 1 deansgate(swanky apartments) .
All the residents were told that the car park would be closed until 5 pm because my machine was going to be taking up all the space. They got two weeks notice and were told again the day before.

This **** still rocked up about 2PM and preceded to lean on his horn for about 60 seconds and gesticulate out of the window for us to move.
I just ignored the ****. The bloke working in the cage with me said we'd better go down and move.
At this stage I didn't even know it was him, I just thought it was someone being a ****. He leaned on his horn for another minute and I leaned over the cage and told him to go and fuck himself.

Cue the site agent, running over like a fat Seb Coe and shouting at us to come down, which we did.
Now I was already in a bad mood, I shouldn't really have been working because I was waiting for a double hip replacement and every step was agony. To make it worse, I'd been stuck in Manchester all week, 8 hours a day in the cage with no overtime. The usual was about 2-3 hours work(but we got paid for 8) and 5-6 hours travel, and I was already feeling narked.

Then I noticed the **** beeping his horn as though he'd got it for xmas was that **** Barthez.
The site agent was flapping like a woman and telling me to move my machine. I saw who it was and decided to be as obstreperous as I possibly could. We then had a quick argument because he had earlier assured me that once I had set up I wouldn't have to move.

I made sure I took as long as possible to stow the machine away and even rolled a fag before climbing into the cab to move it. Then I gave the bald headed rag **** the finger as he drove past, revving the bollocks out of his motor but refusing to make eye contact.

Fabien Barthez you are a ****.
cracker!

Most recently and randomly Vicent Kompany outside kings cross station after we smashed Spurs 5-1 last season.

There was this fella in the City end on the concourse me and my mate got chatting to before the game. Big halfcaste lad about 6' 7" or 8" with a huge afro hairdo. Anyway, he told us he was VK's cousin. We didn't really believe him, but he seemed a good lad.

My mate got thrown out at HT for standing. He rang me and insisted that I stay and watch the game (thank fuck in the end!) and he was off down Kings Cross to watch a bit of beaver down the Flying Scotsman!

I made my way back to Kings Cross after the match had ended. As soon as I got there though I was that desperate for a piss I had to go in the station, there was no way I would have mad the Scotsman. As I left Kings X via a side door a car pulls up with blacked out windows and out gets the lad we had been speaking to at WHL, closely followed by VK.

As soon as the lad saw me he smiled and his words were "hey, so do you believe me now?" I apologised and shook both of their hands. I had a good 5 minute chat with Vincent and had my photo taken with him. Even though I'd had one too many sherberts he seemed a really nice guy, top drawer and genuine. He asked my if I had enjoyed the game and thanked me for my support.

I then went to meet my mate and I told him what had just happened. I also showed him the photo of me and Vinny. Needless to say he was a bit pissed off, he had not only missed 45 minutes of us battering Tottenham on their own patch, but I bumped into the club captain after the match aswell.

Neil Young (rip)

Came in to my workplace, had no idea who he was so asked if he had any identification he showed me his cup final medal. Used to come in a bit after that and was always happy to chat about his time in the game and how he saw things in the modern era. Real Gent.

SWP and Goater came through the drivethru when i used to work at Mcd's. Both quiet but goater didnt seem that amused that i kept saying i was feeding the goat over and over.

Lastly Steve Bruce saw him in Harry Ramsdens after I had been to watch the toon at Maine Road. His face when i went up and asked him for an autograph wearing my Newcastle shirt and the produced a City programme for him to sign was hilarious.

Met Fowler when I was about 10, he took time to talk to me, take pictures and sign my shirt, seemed a decent bloke.

Met SWP who again was a fantastic bloke who talked until whoever he was with had to pretty much drag him away!

Keegan who was again chatty, Richards in his 'younger' days, Richard Dunne who I found to be friendly but not particularly talkative.

Got a birthday card from Stevie Ireland for a few years on the bounce and never understood why or where he had my address from :/

Met Barton and Keegan at a supporters club meeting, at the time Barton was one of my faves and would only sign a shitty bit of paper rather than my shirt which I remember annoying me greatly at the time!

Met Mike Summerbee 4-5 times now, always great to chat to and a very interesting bloke.

Zaba in a steam room. Great great bloke!

Vincent. Very professional man.

Colin Bell. Approachable and engaging, signed his autobiography for my Dad.

When I was about eight I tackled David White playing footy at a Soccer school thing. He was great with me and kept pretending to move across to the other side of the pitch so I would tackle him again. Ian Brightwell was there too and he kept calling me a "pit bull" for the tackle.

Then saw Ian Brigtwell again about two years ago - he was fitting a floor in a squash court - and he's a proper nice fella.

I was walking up Cathedral Street in town heading towards Shambles once and i saw Craig Bellamy coming out of Harvey Nichols. I only said "alright Craig?!" from ten yards away and I got a dirty look off him. Little ****!

Ireland in a shop in Cheadle Hulme. Was cool

Wanchope in the petrol station at Sainsbury's Handforth. Signed a shirt I had in the car.

Used to teach golf at Bramhall and therefore met lots of Rags. Ince, Bruce, Pallister, Schmeichel All of them were fine, strangely Ince was the nicest of the lot of em.

Mike Doyle when I worked at Ashton/Dukinfield Golf Club, hate to say it but he was not the nicest of blokes unless you knew him, taught his son (little cheating bastard) and after that he was fine with me.

Met a few players outside the Etihad.
Kompany asked me what time it was, nearly froze, haha :)

Shay Given signed loads of autographs even though his arm was in a sling and his family were with him, fairplay.

Stewart Downing and James Milner after the Villa home game 09/10 season had a lot of time for fans too.

The soundest I met was Niall Quinn though, he lives in my area in Kildare and was in the shopping centre promoting something, had a game of headers with him and gave me thumbs up to my City shirt.
