Playing sport as you get older

It's tough to admit to yourself but you just have to understand that you can't do it like you used to. There's a reason why in most sports you won't find many pro's still going over 40.

Lower intensity, less frequent, and crucially proper recovery (diet, rest and exercises).

This one is the sort of things I did from my teens right through to my 60s.
Until I was able to drive and had a car the bus/train to the Peak District, Mam tor in particular (before and after it ‘shivered’!) and just anywhere I could, rain, sunshine, snow and ice. :-)
To ‘celebrate’ my divorce (don’t judge please I had my reasons to celebrate) I climbed Scafell Pike. I’ve done most of the Munroes and the Cuillins, Snowdonia, mountain climbed in Ireland and miss them every single day.
In fact only today I told my daughter I want my ashes spread over mountain paths in the Lake District and Wales plus some on Conwy/Penmaenmawr beach! I’m not going yet but good to be prepared. ;-) :-)
That’s your hobby/exercise/sport folks. IMVHO

I’m 56 and am in a local cycling club. Club ride tomorrow 47 miles and about 3000 feet of climbs. Also cycle commute daily and go on cycling holidays/tours. It’s a great way to keep fit, no muscle injuries, meet people, socialise, have fun and enjoy the scenery.

I’m 61 and recently completed the Alzheimer’s challenge to ride 500 miles in 30 days, it took me 17 rides to complete, and I raised a fair bit for the charity. I’ve tried running but had achilles, knee and hip issues, so had to give up.

I’m 48 and about 6-7 years ago decided to join the local rugby club….was meant to just be for some touch-rugby and cross field 7s….after about 4 weeks I got roped into playing for their 3rds….felt amazing to run out on the pitch with a full team, got hammered first 3 games and then absolutely banjaxxed my ACL. Took about 18 months to be able to walk normally again.

In hindsight, a ridiculous idea to think I’d be able to compete. Lol

Started cycling to work, I’m definitely not a MAMIL, but can see how many get addicted….i really enjoy it!

Just turned 60 and I’ve been retired since the start of lockdown…

I’ve cycled ~4,000 miles a year for the last few years but I’m now cycling for ~100 miles a week and having a couple of rounds of golf.. Golf is causing me massive issues with Plantar Fasciaitis (sp) though.. Love it but it’s causing horrendous pain.. I’ve tried new shoes, rolling a golf ball under the affected heel but nothing shifts it.. I’ve now ordered a foot roller massager that’s supposed to work before I consider a visit to get proper insoles prescribed

I’m loving the golf and after a two month trial at my local GC (Hawarden) I’m due to become a member so I need to sort it..
