Plzen vs City post match thread

Don't get this positive feeling from the game.

We beat a team we were expected to beat and didn't look good the first half at all with the rags coming up I fear for city I really do

Good result absolutely nothing more . Swansea would have beaten them 3-0. Maybe more.

I have to agree, Plzen were a very very poor side who I always felt we would beat.

Their European record suggests different.

They have good results against quality teams including Napoli and Athletico.

Pidge is fucking ace and a top blue. How some posters could think otherwise is kinda dumb.

On the game it's encouraging that Plzen look capable of causing an upset somewhere in the group and hopefully nick a point or two off CSKA.
Their schemer Horvath really impressed and with a lefty like his I can't believe he hasn't made his name at bigger clubs during his long career.

They had us on the ropes on occasion during the first 45 but once we went in front it was a glorified stroll in truth. That second half though could be just what we needed.

Finally an encouraging start to a Champs League campaign. Bring it on!

This was more like it. Great to see Kompany back, but the worrying thing is that we shouldn't be so dependant on one player.

I've been saying it for weeks and today it happened with Fernandinho sitting deep and Yaya forming more of a 2 behind Dzeko. And what a goal by the big fella eh?

Nasri was definitely MOTM for me without a doubt and we looked a lot better when he came in off the wing in the 2nd half and went more central with Yaya, which just proves my point that we don't need to play with 2 defensive midfielders.

All in all it was a good, skilful and solid display. Even though it was against spiritd but limited opposition, you can only beat what's in front of you.

Good goal by Dzeko, but he's still shit and not the quality that we need. Just imagine if we had RVP or Falcao instead of him, our forward line would be something else and a match for Real's.

Roll on Sunday! My stomach's in knots already.....

No they didn't, we created our own problems by giving the ball away poorly, but on chances we could, and probably should have been 2-0 at half time.

Their best chances came from set pieces and two sublime through balls. True we lost possession cheaply but they created plenty themselves and were fired up. We wobbled at times but I'm not overly concerned.

I didn't think they created much really, 2 good balls, but otherwise it was down to our poor passing. In all honesty Hart had f**k all to do, other than a couple of catches and punches. I hope they are good enough to take points off CSKA, if they do we should qualify.

Good start anyway.

Great result, thought we were city 2012-13 in the first half, laboured, slow, giving the ball away too often, and giving away too many daft free kicks.

Second half, the City of early 2011-12 turned up (for 20 minutes at least), great passing, great movement, great goals, which is why we still frustrate so much.

Hart - 6 - barely had a touch.
Zabaletta - 6 - better but still off his best.
Kompany - 7 - glad he's back, hope he came through unscathed, we need him Sunday.
Nastasic - 8 - thought he was great, he's still raw and will make the odd mistake, but so very good for his age.
Kolorov - 7 - had a good game, was worried he'd be a weak link, but he wasn't.
Fernandinho - 6 - still awaiting this guys quality, barely noticed him tonight, but that maybe a positive, because I rarely noticed Barry until he didn't play.
Yaya - 7 - wonderful goal, great second half, when he got forward, average first half when he didn't.
Nasri - 6 - better second half than first.
Navas - 6 - still not seen anything that excites me.
Aguero - 8 - worked hard for no reward first half, excellent second half.
Dzeko - 6 - good goal, 1 bad miss, usual for me.

Subs

Milner - 6 - didn't do much, but didn't have to.
Garcia - not on long enough
Negredo - not on long enough

Kolarov 7 when he looked like he was towing a fridge all night and Nasri only a 6 when he had IMO one of his best games for us - must have been watching a different match.....

Thanks for the affirmation of my right to free speech!!

Seriously though I thought Nasri was class - tracked back, got challenges in and looked a real creative force on the ball.

Kolarov never fills me with confidence and I didn't see a good performance tonight - his passing remains woeful and his lack of pace will keep getting found out.

It's very worrying another thread becoming about Pige, when it could and should be about me.

the world doesnt revolve around you, ya know!

decent result away from home however it was against the whipping boys of the group so not getting the champers out untill we can beat bayern like that the good thing to come from tonight apart from the 3 points is its a catalyst to go into the derby with lets hope this is now us gelling

Poor first half but found our mojo in the 2nd half. Welld done boys and much credit to MP for whatever he said at half time. That second half display has given me much comfort tonight and am very happy. Replicate that 2nd half for 90 mins on Sunday and we will beat the shit. Yaya was simpoly unplayable 2nd half.

Anyone else notice him read the game. A quicker Barry hopefully. He is growing
Well I barely noticed him tonight, but I only ever noticed Barry when he didn't play, so I think that is a positive.

Yet you give him the same mark as Nasri ????????

Tough opening half an hour as all away games are in Europe.
They will cause other sides in the group a problem or two but their defence is too leaky - they have proved they can win in Europe against better teams so lets hope they can do CSKA for us. Bayern will take them to the cleaners a bit like we did 2nd half for 20 mins.

It seems obvious to me we set up not to concede early as we knew they'd come at us and make this a mountain of a group to qualify from. Clearly you can't win the group or qualify in the first game or two but you can be out of contention like we were last year and we weren't going to make that mistake again. It just surprises me some people think we can just come out and go all guns blazing to win the game in the first half an hour or that we can play at a level that blows other half decent teams off the pitch for 90 minutes. Do people believe the players go out with no plan on how to go about the whole game other than "just play like you can". Do some believe there is no structured approach to how we would approach the game with it broken down into sections on how we should go about our business. Yes it didn't go to plan first half but the plan was clear to me and Dzeko should have given us the lead and Sergio was unlucky with the post effort otherwise it would have been 0 - 2. Hart didn't have a serious save to make despite them pressing us which was testament to how hard our midfield worked first half. Yes it wasn't pretty in parts but all part of the grand plan. The amount of chances Dzeko and Aguerro missed/wasted was a little painful if they could have converted the 1 on 1's we would have won the game by 6 or more. We increased the tempo 2nd half and they could't live with it. Another little learning curve for us and a good start in this years CL.

Now bring on the Rags! They will go at us which is how I like it none of this 10 behind the ball shite and man for man we're better than them and should come out on top.
