Police Wage reductions, hear me out

The police became a strong arm branch of the state in the miners strike. Never forgotten.
I've seen too much thuggery and total disrespect for the public from too many coppers to accept that it is a small minority. I see it as an institutionalised mind set. About time their ludicrous overtime payments were severely cut back.

OK I joined the Police in 1991, in the last 21 years I have been shot at, had guns pulled on me, someone tried to stab me, I've been hit over the head with a pool cue, baseball bat and been attacked with a samurai sword, following one assault i was urinated on whilst unconscious. I'm not trying to make myself out as a hero it's just stuff that happens day to day in the world we live in. I'm on my second marriage, not because I'm a bad boy just because my first wife cosididered I was married to the day to day duties (and overtime) that came with the job. I'm not after sympathy or a moments thanks from anyone, just pointing out day to day life of a serving police officer, i have since met another serving police officer and we have a son together.
Today the home secretary has announced a lot of proposed changes to the Police forces across the country, in short we will be hit in the pocket in a number of ways, the way it has been sold in the press is that we are just like the local MP's with our expenses claims for just about everything. Our pension contributions will be increased, we have a pay freeze for three years etc etc etc.
In addition to this our length of service is being reviewed and we will be hit heavily in the pocket.
We as Police officers in the UK cannot strike nor would the majority of us want to but because we cannot strike we are abused by the government. I am old school now in that I will see out my days but I do fear around the younger in service officers when corruption will be a viable option.

First of all i respect you for what you do. I have thought about the Police before but never gone through with it. But some of the stuff i have heard over the past day or two is just wrong. We are in the middle of a recession where everyone is facing cut backs and job losses and unfortunately, your profession is no different. Here are some examples of a few things i heard yesterday that are shocking.

*Police officers often know their shifts months in advance so then can arrange their social life etc, but when they are asked to do some overtime at short notice (8 days) they get double pay AND an extra days holiday! Now the issue with this is if you do overtime then someone else has to fill in for you when you take your extra day back. They will then be doing overtime and get an extra days holiday - it is a never ended cycle basically and it has to stop.

*There are some officers who last year earned £50,000 in overtime alone. Now i understand that at times people will have to cover for others etc, but seriously, £50k in overtime when you are on £23-£30k a year is just rediculous. Things need to be done.

*Pay freeze for 3 years is normal in the current conditions. My Fiancee is a nurse who ears £22k a year and her pay is frozen for 3 years i think it is. This is the way things are at the minute, it is tough for everyone and there are areas where cutbacks must be made, and the police is one of those areas.

*When you say you have been shot, stabbed etc well with all due respect, it is part of your job. It is liek joining the army then moaning that you dont like tiving in a tent or getting dirty or war zones - simply dont join if it isnt for you!

Police are meant to be there to support people, not shit on them, assault them etc.
The police all stick together, lie for one another and pick and choose what they do.
Yes the law has a lot to do with it, as it seems to favour the criminal but the police dont seem to help themselves.

No time for them so not bothered.
