Political relations between UK-EU

I see there's already an increase in the seasonal workers allowed - but not enough say our farmers and food producers. We can't increase domestic food production with no-one to pick it, and imports will be dearer. Good work, chaps.
Not a problem, my fridge looks quite full. What are people worried about?

It always happens when you have Govt setting quotas and limits. A Govt that is hostile to immigration will always set a limit based on the number of people it would like to see in a country, then has to bow to reality, albeit slowly, and over time the whole system is a hot mess of contradictions and unfit for purpose.

Our immigration system is designed to keep people who don’t like immigration happy, not cater for reality, which is why it won’t work.

She/he wouldn't get a tier 1 visa now.

Do these 'more specific' roles include, porters, cleaners, auxiliary staff, drivers, trainees etc?

Having a spare 2 grand.
They can do, if we get short of those types of people we can change the list of “job shortage in occupation” and lower the salary minimum.

That is the beauty of it, we can change it.

Not for those outside the EU and they will have to speak English to get a place here anyway.
That's a big whoosh there. That's the point. I'll be blunt, would you rather be treated by a Somalian nurse for whom English is a third language, or an EU nurse who's been speaking it since the age of 6.

More news on the banana front...good to see we are now helping out poorer countries (arf).

Ghanaian banana exporter says 3,000 jobs are at risk due to no agreement between the UK and Ghana yet to roll-over the existing EU-Ghana FTA. Because of this bananas face a £95/tonne MFN tariff on UK entry. Another shipment arriving today’ @BBC

I’m not a racist **** Vic so I wouldn’t mind.

They have to pass the English test so they’ll be able to speak it to the required level.

Would being treated by a Somalian nurse make you uncomfortable?

Quite a lot has to change to get to that point and the troubles it would cause isn’t an excuse, the country is very much split on the issue as it stands, with remaining in the UK, still the preference.

I think people are presuming the customs checks are going to make a huge difference, I don’t think they will once the media have stopped talking about Brexit.
We wouldn't be discussing this but for Brexit.

Not sure you can say that with any degree of certainty. The one protestant from East Belfast that posts on here has said that he would vote for Irish unification if the vote happened, albeit he thinks it wouldn't be a good idea to have the vote. If that's the case, there's a fair chance he's not the only one in that situation who would vote that way.

That’s correct but the study in which I posted from suggested around 20% of the 45% Catholics in Northern Ireland wouldn’t vote for unification.

40 years ago you could accurately split unification or not by that characteristic of Prod vs Cath... now the lines are significantly blurred.

This probably does help the nationalist agenda but the numbers aren’t there yet and likely won’t be until the next generation at least.
