Political relations between UK-EU

I think you miss the genius of the GFA and how difficult it was to put together a bit of legislation as you refer to it, that satisfied the aspirations of both communities in the North, all in the South and the foresight of carrying those aspirations into a future electorate.
Please don’t think my posts are against the GFA.

My personal opinion is it’s the greatest piece of legislation in my lifetime, and saved hundreds, probably thousands of lives.

As a remain voter, I spent two years in this thread defending the GFA and how integral it was that we kept it in place after Brexit.

Other than our economy falling off a cliff, it’s the most important thing to me in the whole discussion.

I’m not a racist **** Vic so I wouldn’t mind.

They have to pass the English test so they’ll be able to speak it to the required level.

Would being treated by a Somalian nurse make you uncomfortable?
Well said - needed saying

Learn the language, get a 'sponsor', (maybe have to pay them a 'fee'), pay a grand for visa, pass a Britishness' test, have £1500 spare savings.......
How many people do you know, that work abroad, speak the language of said country?
I doubt @SWP's back has test standard Arabic? I have family working in Dubai, Norway, Poland and liverpool and not one of them can speak the local lingo.
Well where SWP works the use the standard international language of English for foreign speakers, I don’t think it’s comparable than say, going to work in France.

Unless it’s an international hotspot for workers like the Middle East is, and they use English there to manager communication, I think you should make an effort.

Without wishing to further divert the thread with history, but as it was when a border commission was first set up a hundred years ago, currently 4 of the 6 counties have a Catholic majority.

The border was never a logical solution and still isn’t.
It was not the history that I found inappropriate

It is determined by Govt officials, by definition this is neither flexible nor adaptable.

We are a Services economy, services are people, this is an attempt by the State to manage the economy. Just as Brexit is an attempt to manage new friction in trade, this is an attempt to manage friction in people.

You cannot manage friction anywhere near to the same efficiency as you can by eliminating friction. You eliminate friction by removing Govt from the equation. This is even more true with countries and economies in close proximity to ourselves.

That is just the reality.
This is an overly simplistic view of the situation and equating free trade with freedom of movement is a little disingenuous.

What we are going to get by this management of immigration is less numbers, so less strain on infrastructure and public services, whilst refining those who are coming to fit our needs more accurately.

Unless you have the opinion, which you obviously do, that borders are bad, it’s entirely reasonable and is similar to other reasonable nations around the world.

Our new points system is incredibly similar to Canada and they’ve had theirs for a significant period of time.

I mean, the idea the English need to learn the language before they can work in a different country is hilarious, none of us would leave this island and I include myself in that.
Well you should really depending on where you wish to go.

The Middle East is a poor example as they encourage English speaking but if went to live in France or Spain I would 100% learn the language to a sufficient level. It’s arrogance not to.
