Political relations between UK-EU

This nations arrogance leave us chasing the pack. Language skills should be an mandatory part of the UK education system. Rather than rileing against anything that might be a bit foreign.
Aren’t they? I had to take 2 in addition to English at GCSE level although I went for 3 as I was adept at Latin in addition to French and Spanish.

I left school with basic 5 A-C GCSE’s, as im a moron and straight into work at 16 and even I had a fairly reasonable pop at French.. got a D but that summer I went to French and ordered stuff in local shops speaking the local lingo.

I'm pigeon french only and regret not taking time to learn it properly (I've restarted during the lockdown). My ex wife is a polyglot. French, German, Russian and currently trying Mandarin.

I'm checking on my previous statement as I thought you could drop languages at 14. You could when I was there.

I left in 2008 and you had to take one.

I remember because it was around the time I stopped being a Chelsea fan.

This is an overly simplistic view of the situation and equating free trade with freedom of movement is a little disingenuous.

What we are going to get by this management of immigration is less numbers, so less strain on infrastructure and public services, whilst refining those who are coming to fit our needs more accurately.

Unless you have the opinion, which you obviously do, that borders are bad, it’s entirely reasonable and is similar to other reasonable nations around the world.

Our new points system is incredibly similar to Canada and they’ve had theirs for a significant period of time.

It’s not in the least disingenuous to equate free trade with freedom of movement within a single market. In a single market you have four basic tradeable commodities: money you can pay, services you can provide, Labour you can provide or goods you can provide. Within that single market, all of the markets consumers are equally able to trade in all four of those components. The argument that within the single market it was “discriminatory” to allow freedom of movement within single market (ie the EU) was always economically illiterate.

Plainly the situation has changed because we have now left the single market and so movement of Labour within that economic unit no longer concerns us. Rather, it has become an issue of movement of Labour into our economic unit, which we are entitled to control access to just as we can control the provision of goods, services and even capital. It has in other words become an immigration issue though it has not been for almost 30 years. But it’s a bit harsh to say it’s a disingenuous comparison. The disingenuous part was, pre Brexit, to say that FoM was some sort of immigration policy.

I’m not a racist **** Vic so I wouldn’t mind.

They have to pass the English test so they’ll be able to speak it to the required level.

Would being treated by a Somalian nurse make you uncomfortable?
No more than showing my ticket to the Somalian ticket collectors at Deansgate. "Mahadsanid". But if someone's putting me on a drip I'd rather they hadn't learned English just to meet a points total.

Just a change management issue. Should have sorted by the fish and fruit work stream.
Didn't workstream man say why he thought Frost's fish deal was so good? Well, no, but he did say we should all realise why it was obvious it was so good.
