No. Its the subjective element which is open to cronyism and discrimination.
1. Offer of job by APPROVED sponsor - Who approves the sponsor / How do you get Approved / What do you need to put into place to become Approved?
2. Job at APPROPRIATE skill level. - Who decides this ? What happens if that skill is no longer required after time?
3. Speaks English at REQUIRED level. - What does this even mean? Who decides this? A lot of people born in the UK would struggle with this.
4.Salary of £20480 - £23039 - Why is this even in as there are no points scored for it.
5. Salary of £24040 - £25599 - So to get my mate in (10 extra points) all I have to do is pay him a few quid extra?
6. Salary of £25600 or above - earns 20 points . Same comment as 5.
7. PHD in subject relevant to the job - only earns 10 points (should be more if we actually wanted to attract the best). So someone with a PHD having just qualified earns the same points as someone with no qualifications but gets an inflated salary from his relative / mate.
8. PHD in Science, Technology , Engineering or Maths. (Relevant to job ) - Earns 20 points. Same comments as 7.
1. The sponsor is the company you are joining. Say Barclays cannot find a cyber security professional. They can advertise and offer sponsorship to anyone outside the UK. Therefore if there are jobs that cannot be filled by a business and they need someone, they can approve an external person. This has happened for years and years by the way, even before we left the EU.
2. This means that if you’re a qualified director of IT, you can’t just pick up a service desk role. The job has to be matched to your experience.
3. This is will be a similar test that is done in Canada, Aus, New Zealand etc. And has been for years. You need to pass an English or French test to get into Canada. It won’t be GCSE level but it’ll make sure someone has fairly good reading and writing skills.
4. You need a minimum salary of £20k. Again, this is typical around the world, it means whoever is coming is taking a role you need to be qualified for and is taking a role where their taxes are making a significant difference.
5. You’ll be contributing more, taking a more skilled job that’s needed.
6. see above
7. Experience is more important than qualifications, I deal with this every single day. You’d rather hire someone with 20 years as a nurse than someone who has done a PHD and has 6 months experience
8. STEM is a field we need people in, it’s actually a critical area and I recruit in the STEM section of our group, which has been set up for this reason, they also get 20 points for being experience in this field so they’re over half way there at this point.
