Listened to James O’Brien whilst rowing. He had quite a few fishermen and other small business owners recounting their experience of the last two weeks. Many said they are a week or two away from losing their business if things don’t get easier. Red tape, customs fees, other charges, delays at the border. Some things may improve, others are permanent. He even had a few of the hard of thinking on telling him to stop talking about it as it’s all done. He came up with quite a pithy phrase for one. ‘First time I have ever heard of a loser gloating’ . Yes , he was accused of that.

I love his show, you can learn so much from it and as a man I believe him to be sincere and full of empathy.

What I wish he would do though is stop blaming BREXIT for all the ills and start blaming the idiots who have messed it up. He does that to a degree, but always in the wrong context.

Perhaps if you paid less attention to Mr O’Brien and more attention to you significant other there would be less rowing...

No, it’s a flawed policy and unfit for purpose. It’s not the 1970s anymore. Living in the past isn’t an option.

Of course it is flawed, the proponents in charge have made it flawed.

Ideologically though it is sound, if you want to escape Neo-Liberalism then the only choice was to leave, it just so happened that because of attitudes such as that belongs in the 1970s the party of more Neo-Liberalism is now in the driving seat.

That is your choice Bob, the politics inspired by Hayek and the laissez faire right. You preferred a future of Conservative Libertarianism, I want a future of Socialism.

I know some on here hate him with a passion but I like his intelligence and his logical thought processes. He has his heart in the right place but I do chuckle when he is being empathetic. I know some on here hate him with a passion but I like his intelligence and his logical thought processes. He has his heart in the right place but I do chuckle when he is being empathetic. Lots of people hate him from both sides of the political divide, I think he is the best talk show host around.

You can find compilations of him on you tube done by Iamincorrigble (moron of the week) that make great listening whether you agree with him or not, because he is very good at what he does.

Two takeaways from that. The government knew the figures while they negotiated the “deal” and they are lying through their teeth : A spokesperson said: “The deal will help unlock investment and protect high-value jobs right across the UK, from financial services through to car manufacturing. And we will now take full advantage of the fantastic opportunities available to us as an independent trading nation, striking trade deals with other partners around the world.”

Meat as well as fish exports hit

Post-Brexit customs systems not fit for purpose, say meat exporters

Even experienced exporters are struggling with the system, says the British Meat Processor Association.

‘Nick Allen, chief executive of the British Meat Processor Association, said: "Fundamentally, this is not a system that was designed for a 24/7, just-in-time supply chain.

"The export health certification process was designed for moving containers of frozen meat around the world where you have a bit of leeway on time.
"No matter how much better we get at filling in the forms, it's really not fit for purpose. This is going back to the dark ages in terms of a process really, in this digital age."

Much as we are awash with the problems of UK fish and meat exporters, most of it is down to leaving the EU Single Market and Customs Union, which there was plenty of warnings about beforehand and as neither industry or any industry pushed to remain in either the SM and CU, they kind of made their bed and all that.

Varadkar is right in what he has said to the Irish haulage industry also joining in on complaints...that there is no fix, no magic bullets. It’s a consequence of the UK leaving the SM and CU. Just got to knuckle under and adapt, or find alternative supply chains. “There’s no workaround". @FT
