Political relations between UK-EU

I'm just surprised the mess wasn't blamed on Remainers and the EU, although as a non-subscriber to the Telegraph I've only read the first 10 lines of the article. Maybe that comes later.

Having said that the comments are comedy gold. Here's the highlight:

"If we had had a clean, proper Brexit, implemented by an honest government carrying out the will of the people, as Brexiteers wanted, we would not have these messy issues. It was May and her remain cabal that came up with the dogs dinner of a WA in order to keep the UK still under Brussels control as much as possible. The Irish issue would have been one for the EU. We could have said, and meant it, that the UK government would never put up a hard border in Ireland and left the EU to respond. Any problems with the Good Friday Agreement would be down to them if they put up a hard border.

The current problems all flow from that. The remain cabal, on both sides of the channel, and in its childish bitterness, would rather damage all concerned than see a successful Brexit."

Could easily be a copy and paste from one or two on here!
" successful Brexit". The moron's choice of oxymoron. (Now that's condescension.)

Listened to James O’Brien whilst rowing. He had quite a few fishermen and other small business owners recounting their experience of the last two weeks. Many said they are a week or two away from losing their business if things don’t get easier. Red tape, customs fees, other charges, delays at the border. Some things may improve, others are permanent. He even had a few of the hard of thinking on telling him to stop talking about it as it’s all done. He came up with quite a pithy phrase for one. ‘First time I have ever heard of a loser gloating’ . Yes , he was accused of that.

Trade takes the easiest route to markets.

‘Up to 40% of fish sold at a Danish auction so far this year are believed to have come from Scottish boats circumventing UK disruption. Industry figures fear it might be the start of a permanent shift, not just a temporary work around’

We have broke from a neo liberal entity, now we have to remake the nation.

As I explained to Vic, it is the right thing to do, but its the wrong people doing it.

No, it’s a flawed policy and unfit for purpose. It’s not the 1970s anymore. Living in the past isn’t an option.

Reopening the coal mines as a state organisation isn’t going to be any worth to us when trading globally, yet unfortunately some still think it’s a good idea.

Yeah - we get it

If the only topic to be considered was trade - then being part of a very large trading bloc is to be welcomed

I can see the UK acting to join other trading blocs

But........

Trade is not the only issue - and so thank fuck we are out.

TBF to Bob and others on here - they manage to largely ensure that the discussion does get beyond ease of trade - but FFS what a one-trick pony

I can afford to smile and other Leavers have (again) voted with their feet - the echo chamber seems to be nearly regained again.
Never about trade for me.

Pressure is staring to ramp up, only saving grace is that trade traffic flow is still well down, although that in itself is a problem. Bloomberg are keeping track...

UK-Ireland trade has been badly affected, particularly food shipments. Stephen McAneney of Allied Fleet Services in NI said he saw consignments of potatoes, apples and cream being destroyed at ports because they lacked the right documents.’

Scottish fisherman’s Federation letter - now saying Govt has left it in “worst of both worlds...many in seafood supply chain fear they will not survive..”

This, on top of the desperately poor deal on fisheries in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement, is not what you promised the fishing industry. In your letter to me of 6th July, you said: “We are simply not prepared to agree to an arrangement that is manifestly unbalanced and against the interests of the UK fishing industry.” Yet that is what has been agreed. You also said: “We are committed to ensuring there are annual negotiations for access to, and sharing of, fishing opportunities, based on the principle of zonal attachment.”

Yet we find ourselves with an outcome where the EU fleet will continue to have full and unfettered access to UK waters until the middle of 2026, and should the UK want to change these arrangements at that point, the EU can impose a suite of punitive sanctions on the UK. No other coastal state in the world is in this position.’

........ ‘First time I have ever heard of a loser gloating’ .

So - that thrashes my suspicion that JO'B is a member of BM - we have had it on here for at least 3 years;-)

BTW - that was meant as a level of good natured banter - as I feel people need to lighten up
