Political relations between UK-EU

Amidst reports of the Govt about to provide a NI working roadmap for the NI protocols, the BBC followed a cargo from GB to NI.

‘Three months in, GB firms still aren’t fully up to speed with the new processes to send goods to Northern Ireland. If it’s not done right, goods end up sitting on a warehouse floor like this, unable to be loaded. At Fortec they’re still helping companies figure it out.

The extra time, legwork and costs involved at every stage of the process is quite striking. For a lorry going from GB to NI, depending what’s on board, hauliers reckon it’s now:

Extra £50 - £350 per pallet for the new admin
Added four hours turnaround time per lorry.

Once in Belfast, going through the new border control posts was a several stage process. Our lorry had some products on board like pet food, which required extra checks. At the first border post we were directed to a second location for physical inspections.

At the second border stop the shed the lorry was supposed to go into for checks didn’t fit! New border posts are due to be built, but work’s on hold amid DUP opposition (and signs on the route spelling out loyalist opposition).

Overall it was evident throughout our journey that lots of people involved are trying hard to make the Irish Sea Border work. But there’s more uncertainty and new paperwork ahead. Many businesses are still at the mercy of how negotiations between the UK & EU play out.‘

Going well

as the EU thrives and prospers greatly

Some ex-pats have been returning to Britain before the deadline. Shaun Cromber, who voted for Britain to leave the EU in 2016, told reporters: “Yes I voted out, but I didn’t realise it would come to this.

“My application has been rejected and we are on our way home. The wife is in tears, she’s distraught if I’m honest and I’m not too happy at the prospect of returning back to the UK.”

My heart bleeds for him.

My wine order was late. I phoned to be told that all new imports of EU wine are subject to delay as soon as they hit the UK. Stockpiled in customs in the UK. 'We expect them when they arrive at our warehouse' the man on the phone said. I thought we were simply waving stuff through. Not if there is alcohol involved it would seem. Fuck Brexit and all who sailed in her. A man needs his pouilly fume and sancerre.
The specialist off licence that I occasionally go to here when I fancy something like a Doom Bar has reduced the range of British beers it stocks and increased the prices.

One of the firms thinking of suing DEFRA for the wrong assurances that they could sell into the EU even with No Deal. 95% of their mussel harvest goes (went) to the EU.

in the absence of evidence, Holmyard reckons Eustice is lying about how the Commission has changed its stance.

Lib Dems are saying that the Tories are failing the population and the farmers as exports to the Eu fall by 75.5%

All going rather swimmingly well isn't it?

It's funny how certain posters are no longer seen on this thread.

In fact some of them appear to have left the forum altogether.

How very strange.

It would be nice if even one of them would man up and accept their part in having responsibility for this shit show by voting leave.

I stand by my prediction from a couple of years ago that we will ultimately end up more integrated with the EU with less influence than if we’d voted to remain, which is the polar opposite of what they want and a long way from what most remainers wanted as well.

The reason the vocal leavers have left the thread or forum is simple: it was never really about the EU or the economy or trade or international relations for them. They never really cared much about the actual issues which mattered. It was purely about their victory over those they considered to have had more advantages in life than them. It was a massive “Fuck off” from the uneducated to the educated, manufactured, stoked and manipulated by a tiny number who don’t even need education at all.

June Mummery now

June Mummery then

You care too much, they never did
