Political relations between UK-EU

We simply panicked and signed an old dusty deal the eu found in the bottom of drawer, because time ran out and we realised there was no viable walk away option.
Now we’ve realised its’s a pretty shit deal, the hurdle of a border within the UK is the first that needs sorting. We don’t know how so have to ask for permission not to implement it.
This will closely be followed by having to work out deals on services, and a new deal for exporting fish.
It’s the start of a long process. The easiest option to start to solve things in my opinion would be to ask if the whole UK could please have the same deal that they have let Northern Ireland have.
My guess is some in the government, maybe even Boris, realise this and it’s why they didn’t go to town over last weeks vaccine shambles unlike some posters and newspapers.
Pretty much.

It does give us some amusement on this forum though to watch some of the Brexit fans smugly pronounce how happy they are with things whilst at the same time blaming everyone but themselves, including the government that delivered the deal, for the shit position we find ourselves in. Do they think we haven't spotted the contradiction?

Meanwhile it's interesting to see that in spite of the EU dropping a huge bollock with the whole Article 16 thing in relation to vaccinations, they managed to largely extricate themselves from the mess within 4 hours. Meanwhile our huge dropped bollock of a trade deal will take a bit longer to sort out...10 years maybe?

Really struck by how the UK Govt is obliged to write to the EU to seek temporary relief on arrangements for internal UK trade, arrangements that the UK Govt negotiated and agreed to just over a month ago.

Even more struck by how the UK ignores this reality and pretends it is perfectly normal.

It is not normal for a country to have a trade bloc to which it does not belong to have competence over your internal trade.
At last - some semblance of understanding/acceptance

The Remainer led government of 2016-2019 have a lot to be held accountable for

This is really sad. It‘s like watching someone soil themselves in public and not realise it.

Just a nonsense question - as is all the distraction that you guys have been bringing forward

It is not a question of comparing 2 blocs and deciding between them - that is just the narrative/discussion that you want to make it

Thankfully, the UK is out of the EU and away from the risk of future integration that Remaining would have inevitably led to

Now we are we are able to consider which trading relationships we wish to enter into

Simples really
It wasn't a question. It was a statement, carefully worded to exclude the things that make leaving the EU more important for you than the damage to trade.

Question then: will the benefit of a bit more trade with the Pacific outweigh the loss of trade with the EU?

That isn’t the actual treaty but an interpretation of it.

The actual treaty states the “aim of the Community, by establishing a Common Market and progressively approximating the economic policies of Member States, to promote throughout the Community a harmonious development of economic activities and balance expansion, an increased stability, an accelerated raising of living and closer relations between its Member States”

Tell me is that a complete picture of what the EU has become? Or has it perhaps added to those aims somewhat? Well I know the answer because it required the Maastricht Treaty to become what it is today (and yes one the UK government of the time signed up to)
With respect - have you not previously spotted that this fellas posts are in the main only reflecting his hatred of all things Tory.

Even in the post that you are replying to he set out this utter nonsense:

"Once again the UK Tories renege on an agreement that they were signed up to and fully aware of."

Just WTF is that statement saying - why is he making it other than to pour out his bile?

He seems to be saying here that the original treaty of Rome clearly set out the intentions to achieve full integration across Europe and therefore we knew what we were signing up to and therefore taking the UK out of the EU is reneging on that Treaty? Is that what he is saying?

Welllll

Being in the EEC was a decision by the UK electorate through a referendum - during which the Tory party championed being in

Leaving the EU was a decision by the UK electorate through a referendum - during which the Tory party championed Remaining

You are making me smile - you are not the first poster from the 'collective' to hide behind personal insults

Sorry - your views and insults have no ability to impact me

Presumably, because of your EU passport, none of the mess that you and the other unicornists foisted on us all will impact you in the slightest whilst you watch on with wry amusement from your villa in Cyprus.
