Political relations between UK-EU

Labour say they will get us back in the EU as leaving is costing us trillions. everyone votes Labour. sorted.

EU would welcome us back straight away, more money in their coffers, looks good on them we come crawling back and it makes the EU stronger. win win.
Not so sure. I definitely thinking rejoining the customs union could happen, but can't see labour picking the remain/leave scab again for a while as it'd be too easy for the man who currently thinks he's our monarch to start screaming traitor at labour, with loads of leave voters believing him.

Starmer said yesterday that it is not Labour policy to rejoin at the moment.

As you suggest, it would set up a single-focus election again with everything framed according to that one subject.

true

can definitely see it happening though eventually, like all things in politics - it all goes round in circles.

There is absolutely no chance that anyone will go near a re-join pledge in their manifesto at the next election.
What may well happen will be manifesto pledges to improve the deal we've got and to ease the non-tariff barriers which could easily lead to a Norway or Switzerland outcome. If that happens then it would be the election after that or the one after where the full re-join may be put on the table.

There will never be a full rejoin option as there would always be a ‘vote to leave the EU‘ movement within a very short timeframe and the whole thing would start again. If Labour were clever they would agree, with the other parties, what sort of Brexit they can move to.
In an ideal world they would all agree to put up a single candidate against the incumbent Tory MP to both get them out of power and to give this ‘workable Brexit‘ option a chance.

Certainly not in the next 10 years but never say never.

If it does it will be by steps, joining a single market / customs union would be a step then maybe years down the line rejoining will become an option.

give it 40 years.(another vote) I think that would be fair, as the British public had no say over the eu for that amount of time

if any political party have a brain they wouldn’t go anywhere near brexit for a good while yet. The public are fed up of it and the only people talking about rejoining are remainers who won’t accept what happened

I would say as well Labour and all remainer mps had the option of a soft brexit and turned it down…

Hardly anyone is talking about rejoining, a lot from both sides of the debate are talking about getting a government that will get us a deal a damn sight better than the pile of shit Johnson got us into.
That’s what a few can’t see when people atttack the current deal they see it as an attack on brexit and their vote and refuse to accept we have to get something much better than this..
