Nearly 1,500 firms from the EU itself (and more from elsewhere) have planned to set up offices in Britain in the last few years.

We have a trade barrier between the UK and Europe where previously there was no barrier. There is a trade barrier between GB and NI where previously there was no barrier.

Either we are for trade barriers or we are not, so which is it? We seem to be celebrating the creation of them on one day and then celebrating the reduction of them the next.

I was reading last week that Britain’s tech industry is growing at six times the rate of Britain’s general GDP, and Manchester is the hub for this. Manchester is the fastest growing tech city in Europe (overtaking the second which was also a British city, Cambridge, with Liverpool also growing faster than most).

There will be a lot of opportunities for Britain, and specifically Manchester, for global reach for this as there is going to be a lot of countries wanting a bit of it.

I always thought that in the EU, Britain was basically London as part of the EU, and the rest of the country were a fringe. But now we need to be Britain in the world, not just London in the EU in the world, and it would make sense for the economy of Britain to drive places like Glasgow Manchester Birmingham as well as the small capitals Edinburgh Belfast and Cardiff forward with specificity. So while the North West seems to be tech, there could be scope for other economic sectors to grow in other areas.

Make Britain a place that the rest of the world want to work with for a variety of reasons.

The oversight was not ordering it early enough. Go back 2 months and the UK AZ production lines were in a mess too. It's not manufacturing widgets. Bio engineering mass production is very, very tricky and the slightest problem screws things up.

I would indeed - as would the vast majority of Leave supporters.

Just ponder that simple point - even strong minded advocates for Leave like me would have voted Remain - IMO it clearly establishes where the blame should be placed.

It was when there was the push for integration and backdoor treaties that things went wrong for the UK's membership of the EU and where it will continue to go wrong for many years to come for other members.

That is because the poison has already been taken and the only medicine available is full integration

Another large independent packaging customer of mine was bought last week by a huge European group and the intention is to ramp up production. All my packaging customers are running at maximum capacity and many are investing in new kit in order to meet demand.

Different sectors will do different things.

No , but they are already in the single market, customs union ,schengen and just refining bits. We have years working towards that down the line, so a bit more than just refining our agreements.
Still we’ll get there eventually.

That's the whole point of having a continuous relationship, I would have thought.

As the world changes, it makes sense to continue to discuss with our European partners the formalities of our ongoing relationship. Its all part and parcel of doing business with the EU as a non-EU member.

It's really odd that this is being presented as a 'negative aspect' as its just a reality of dealing with the EU. Maybe the realities of the flaws of the EU as a bloc are starting to hit home. :)

They have access to the Single Market, they aren't 'in' it nor are they in the Customs Union. It is how the Swiss are able to do trade deals outside of the EU.

They've negotiated, through their membership of the EFTA which has agreements with the EU that grants its members access to them. They're in constant negotiation because of this.

I know the Swiss version is quite complicated with many agreements. I don’t fully understand it. What I do know is we will spend years working towards something like it. When we could have started with a deal much closer and instead decided to start further back than we needed to.We will spend years working back to what we could have had anyway. We’ve even given N,ireland a head start in the journey.
