And this is why comparisons are useless at the moment.My guess is that between July and December deaths will be below the average on the basis that those most vulnerable and who probably would have died in the next 6 months anyway will already have succumbed.

It sounds cold but it is called mortality displacement. People with very serious / terminal illnesses have died a bit sooner than they would have anyway. As pointed out, excess deaths can only be measured after a much longer period.
The pointers that are very relevant right now, rolling average number of deaths and especially hospitalisations and numbers of new cases are steadily falling and are far lower than the peak.

Two weeks ago it was circa 550, last Tuesday was lower but was after a bank holiday so not a fair comparison. It's slowly coming down which is a positiveI wasn't serious

No Covid deaths at all again in Spain. Second day on the trot. Less than 150 new cases too.
