Post counts

It's that "we shouldn't have a poll because no matter what the merits or demerits of the idea it will only turn out one way".
Then you know the answer and therefore the right thing to do - so why did you do it?

Any poll should also be on accessible from all the forms as I wouldn't think the majority of posters venture into the technical queries one.

Psst...how many posts u got?

Who has said that?

Me.

Im finding the whole thing quite hilarious. In a sad but hilarious way. The reasons for getting rid are reasons i have supported for years. It is good to think that years on this nomark may have had a point :)

Good move never seen the point of it myself and all so find it odd that there is such a big issue being made over the change.

oh right......not sure how an anonymous forum name can be a nomark or whatever. Most people on here haven't a clue who anyone is....only the ones who socialise.

It's fine you thinking that, but in reality we shouldn't have a decision on this without a vote.

Bluemoon isn't a democracy. This is a very important point to understand when we're talking about issues.

You have a voice. I have a voice. The mods have a voice. But Ric can and will make decisions on his own - they very often take into account numerous voices but this is very much not a democracy and instead a benevolent monarchy. Ric listens to as many sides as possible but is his own man and makes his decisions based on his ideas.

This is actually Bluemoon's biggest strength in practice though not philosophy - he'll often override the mods or make a decision to go in a different direction and his judgement is usually spot on as any formerly banned users who have emailed him will attest to. A good example would be the software of the forum; we actually ran this on a completely different software during 2 of the 3 months it took to port it from phpBB. He had spent a decent wedge on this new software, I had put hundreds of hours into setting up the DB for the new server, the mods had gotten onto the forum and started to learn the mod tools. Then after this he decided that it was the wrong direction and that we'd move to this software instead, after seeing the issues and hearing everybody's explanations. If there was a vote there then most people would have voted to stay with the version we'd all invested so much time into. But he was right and in the fullness of time it proved to be exactly the right call to abandon that work and move into this software because it was fundamentally better for the wider forum and users.

We all bring talents to the table to help this place be what it is. Ric's biggest talent in my experience of working with him is listening to as many voices as possible then seeing the wood from the trees and making good decisions. This is certainly not my strength where I get bogged down in the process rather than the resolution as many other mods do but it's why it all works so well.

I've argued here that we shouldn't have a poll and put reasons forward for that. But it's just an opinion as a poster on here no different from anyone else. One of the first things you learn as a mod is that that's how it works, we can make decisions and discuss them but ultimately Ric makes the final call on everything.
