Post counts

So ric wanted feedback, majority want them back, a few don't and now it's the same three or four people repeating their points.

If ric really wants feedback then we can do a poll, which Damocles doesn't want as he knows it will go the way he doesn't want.

So no point having feedback nor the thread as no one is changing anyone else's mind are they.

No, my point is that the Bluemoon members are legendarily change resistant and it doesn't matter about the merits of the change they will always, consistently and universally vote for no change no matter what the issue. If the abolition of slavery was in the hands of Bluemoon we'd have been fucked.

Every single change, no matter whether large, small or necessary is immediately met with outrage and has been for at least 8 years.

My point is that I don't want a poll because a poll is entirely useless and shows absolutely nothing about from the confirmation of the change resistance of the membership which I already know from years of experience.

It's actually just the majority of folk who have replied to this thread that want them back (presumably the majority, I've not read all of it). People who who couldn't give a monkeys wont bother replying at all.

A poll would probably reflect similar statistics so would be pointless.

I guess the more posts you've made, the more likely you should recognise other prominent posters without needing to look at a post count, no? If really necessary, the click of the persons name tells us instantly so it's not as if the information is unavailable.

WUM's and Rags haven't really been much of a problem as their cover has soon been blown, usually by some of our most prominent posters. Instinct tells me that most of the genuine forum members are clever enough to recognise an infiltrator without using the post count as an indicator.

There will be people that have a certain pride in their post count, and this may be their underlying reason for being unhappy (albeit it's not something most people will admit). There's nothing wrong with this and if people have spent a lot of time being active on the forum perhaps they should be able to indicate this.

Therefore, why not make it optional to have your own post count viewable within 'preferences'?' It's a compromise rather than all or nothing, but it seems pretty fair.

No offence Damo but that's like 'the boy who cried wolf'

Just because Bluemoon is adverse to change doesn't mean the opposite is always a good idea

This instance being an example...to be fair I had no idea it was an issue until somebody made it an issue...and now it has become a bigger issue than it probably should have been due to it being highlighted

Millions of forums have postcounts and there is never an issue...seems bizarre to want to hide them here

I find reading what the poster has to say is the best way to decide wherever they're genuine or not. I share some of the concerns offered in relation to the amount of new members who seem to only offer negative views but then it's an easy enough choice to ignore them. It'd be nice to think there aren't people signing up just to cause mischief but reading the transfer forum and match day threads tells me this sadly isn't the case.
As for wherever I personally want to see the post count of a user, it doesn't bother me one way or another. Push came to shove I'd probably err on the side that wants them displayed.

Are the ones with high post counts moaning because they are worried they might be seen as nomarks.

You're mistaking my point.

My point isn't "we shouldn't have a poll because it's a great idea that doesn't need a poll". It's that "we shouldn't have a poll because no matter what the merits or demerits of the idea it will only turn out one way".

I think we shouldn't have them because there's no good reason to keep them and plenty of bad ones that happen if they stay, but that's regardless of my opinions on polls.
