So Juve's early season form was just to lull our "support" into thinking they were there for the taking - they are a quality team that put it together on the night.

Could it be that we end as runners up again and play Barca in the last 16?

Runners up? Jesus, we'll be luckyu. Fancy Juve and Sevilla to get out of this group. Not us.

It wasn't tactics that failed to finish them though was it? We had the chance but missed it. That was a theme of the night

Fair to say that it was a cagey and very competitive game and we could have gambled a bit more, but the main reason we lost that game was because Juve had one of those nights where they had about 4 or 5 attacks and scored 2 goals and City failed to take our own chances.
I see your point but whatever had gone on before and no matter how many chances we should have scored from , we hadn't so when we did finally score we made a simple tactical mistake in not closing the game out as they would certainly have done if they had gone a goal in front.

Our general play was OK.

Just stifled by a Classic Italian team. As I alluded to before, the only thing I can pick tactically was playing Nasri on the right.

I thought Bony was particularly poor and looked a bit star struck and let the occasion get to him. Remember he has very limited CL experience.

We were otherwise sound. We do need the tide to turn a little though. I think we are unlucky on occasion in this competition and whilst you generally make your own luck, teams are ruthless when they come to the Etihad and generally take the chance/s that are created.

The fine details usually go against us, we get those breaks in the league.
if you want to be critical of City then maybe we should look at the decision to play Aguero at Palace. That was decisive because Morata showed the value of a World Class forward tonight and the one weakness in City's game was our forward play. Bony looked off the pace - which of course he would seeing as he rarely plays. This is a bit of an issue for City. We will end up with another Jovetic and Dzeko if we don't play Bony, and then when he plays and struggle the idiots think he is rubbish

That's a fair argument. We have the depth to be resting Aguero in games before CL ones.

Juve rested a number of players at the weekend despite a poor start domestically.

We could learn a thing or two and start to make more use of our squad. Quite often one or two changes will not affect us against the majority of PL sides in games preceding CL ones.

A fully fit and firing Aguero and tonight's outcome might have been different.

Juve have always been good defensively so I wasn't surprised it was hard for us to score but still we didn't look anything like we had been in the league so far we made it easy for them
Although is sterling put away his 2 chances it's a completely different game and we probably pick up 3-4 goals all together but we didn't take our chances they took there's and now we move onto the premier league again and need to continue winning and forget about this game

Also
Nasri showed again why it's so hard to start him when coming off the bench he seems to always change the game and boost the team but starting he rarely shows how good he is you would think someone on the outer of the starting 11 already last year and after buying 2 more players for him to compete with given a starting chance he would put in a lot more effort but he didn't
Hopefully pelles starts KDB STERLING SILVA for the weekend and we can see out real attacking midfield in action

I would have had us sit tight when we scored & take the sting out of the game. Also taken Silva off for Navas & moved Nasri in behind Bony. I thought Silva was pretty much a waste of time, neither helping the midfield nor giving Bony any support. Navas would have been a good defensive move enabling us to close down quicker & hit them on the break. Then I would have swapped Nasri for DeBruyne a bit later. Taking Sterling off was stupid imo, unless he's injured.

I think we would have won comfortably if Pellegrini had taken action to tighten it up straight away. And I recon we could have scored several on the break. I thought it was poor from Pellegrini, but that still doesn't explain why our best players lose all their vision & passing ability in this competition. No inspiration or intelligence in the play.

That step over from Bony was probably the only real piece of play to reach our usual level of cleverness. It's not the same team, at all. I hope we sort it before DeBruyne & Sterling catch the Champs League mediocrity bug from the others.

Palace was much more important imo. We can wn the Prem, we won't win this.
