Andy Burnham could not win his party's nomination. So what you're actually saying is you can't vote for Labour. Corbyn is not an aberration, he's won two Labour leadership elections in two years by stonking majorities, the membership want him and more importantly they want what he stands for, he's not going away, Corbyn's message is Labour's message.

Assuming the Tories hold it together and there's not another election in the next couple of years. Corbyn, who is 68, might hand the reigns over, if he can secure the nomination of another MP from the left of the party, the membership would almost certainly support that, that's the best you're going to get.

But Andy Burnham or another New Labour clone? Forget it, that's history.

Clive Lewis would be my pick, but as it stands a left wing candidate, or any candidate for that matter, needs to be supported by 15 per cent of the Commons members of the PLP. Corbyn only got on the ballot in 2015 to widen the debate and then only at the last minute, the favourite in that election was Andy Burnham, the Blairites had no idea what was going to happen.

The PLP is still chock full of Blairites, so the left may have to campaign to lower the threshold to get Clive Lewis, or any other left wing candidate, on the ballot.

The problems in the Labour Party have not gone away. The PLP is still at odds with the membership, they've just gone quiet, besides there are bigger shit storms in the Tory party and of course Brexit for the chattering classes to amuse themselves.

Who lost their seats! Imagine being sat there sitting pretty on £65k a year or whatever it is and then boom...you lose it in the blink of an eye when you could have sat on the gravy train for another 3 years minimum

The Conservative's campaign was so poor that they made Corbyn almost electable. Unfortunately for Labour, far too many people, myself included, would never vote for him due to his history. If Labour had someone like Andy Burnham leading they'd have pissed it against May. Both partys desperately need new leaders.

I agree, the left has too much invested in Corbyn at the moment.

Minimum indeed. If they had believed the forecasts and the expected lead they would have going into the battle, they'd have been looking at ten years in the Commons.
